Hi There,
I am hoping someone can help me with offering free shipping on Etsy for items over $35 but only to the 48 contiguous states. We have it posted on each of our items that we do have free shipping but only to the 48 contiguous states.
I want to click on the free shipping with Etsy but we are unable to ship to Alaska or Hawaii for free. Any advice would be helpful?
Thank you in advance
Karl
Use flat rate usps same price to all 50
Yeah I'm in the same boat. There doesn't seem to be a way to properly do it. What I do is put a disclaimer at the bottom of each listing that states that orders to those two locations will incur an additional shipping cost. When an order comes in from those locations we message and talk about it. I ship fewer items at higher prices so it's workable.
I live on the east coast and shipping to the other 2 states doesn't cost any more than California or Washington so there is likely no reason to exclude them.
For large items, like the poster is selling, the costs to AK or HI are significant.
If you have free shipping to the US then that's the entire country including the US territories. Why would you want to exclude Alaska and Hawaii? What about Puerto Rico?
Can't they set a different rate to those territories?
I'm in Canada, and I can add Puerto Rico, American Samoa, etc as separate locations, with a different shipping rate...than to the USA.
Put a message at the end of all of your large item descriptions, "Sorry, I do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii".
I just looked at what you sell. Yeah flat rate won’t help you.
what is available on etsy does not work unless you are shipping with the USPS. large items that have to ship with UPS, FedEx etc have higher rates to Hawaii and Alaska. It's been raised here in the forums many times.
every shop has to make the decision right for them. I do a free ship (currently) at $45. That includes all 50 states, territories and APO. Sometimes, I get orders that do cost me a bit to ship them. But...I ship them.
if it didn't work overall (and I do keep track) I wouldn't do it. If costs go up, I'll raise the minimum threshold to $50 or $60.
I have started shipping to Canada on some items. But I do have a blurb that the free ship is for US shipments only. If someone in Canada did decide to order enough to get free ship, I'd have to cancel their order, unfortunately. So far, hasn't been a problem.
but again, I'll make the decision that works for my shop. If your items are too heavy...just offer shipping values that you can support.
