Hi Etsy,
Many shops are having this problem with our FAVORITES setting auto changing from the PUBLIC setting to the PRIVATE setting every single time you "heart or favorite" an item. This keeps happening. All you have to do is 'heart" one item and it changes the setting. If you immediately go into your favorites setting and change it from 'PRIVATE' to "Public", and then go heart another item, it auto changes it right back to PRIVATE again. This is a non stop circle. Change it to Public, heart an item, go check favorites see it's auto changed to Private again, change it back to Public, heart something else, check see it's back to Private again, change to to public, heart something else, and on and on and on. It just keeps auto changing back. Please do something about this as on our dashboard activity feed, we all have 0 views of anyone looking at anything. The entire site seems to be out of whack. No sales, no views, no favorites, no NOTHING. DEAD. What is the issue here and can you fix it? We can't operate a business like this!
Etsy changed mine to private. I just changed it to public to check if this happens. So far mine is staying public. If it changes again to private that's fine with me.
You can always go to your account settings and edit your "public profile" to have the following visible or not ... your shop - favorite items - favorite shops. Too many issues with favorites, so I only have my shop selected to be visible.
In your first OP about this problem back in October, a Mod acknowledged it and said the tech team would look into it. I know it's not a big deal compared to other sellers' problems, but it is annoying to think that they probably haven't looked into what should be a simple fix 3+ months later.
Solved: Favorites Setting auto changing from PUBLIC to PRI... - Welcome to the Etsy Community
Right - Etsy Technical Team - this issue may have been resolved, however, the same problem is back so it is once again NOT RESOLVED. Can you please look into it?
@TBQSC - We have done that too, however, that does not solve the on going issue that most sellers are having. Sellers who think this may not be a big deal - overall it might not seem like one, however, you will notice that your shop does not have any recent activity/views/favorites from other shops or buyers who have their favorites marked Private. If marked private, no one sees what others are looking at or are trying to promote out in the Etsyverse or trying to get pushed out to social media.
Please look into this again Technical Team - what was once solved is broken and back again.
@shabbyshopgirls I didn't mean to insinuate that it shouldn't be something to be concerned about. It's been happening to me for months and it's annoying. I don't think it's back again. I think it was never fixed since first noticed.
I agree with you, it needs to be fixed for exactly the reason you described. When looking at my stats, my things are getting favorited, but there hasn't been any info about the item or member who fav'd it on the Recent Activity for months now. That means their fav list is on private. How many of those people actually have their favs on private on purpose? Most likely, the problem is also affecting them but they are just unaware.
This also affects sellers who use the favorite targeted coupons. Those coupons do not get sent to anyone whose favs are set to private. How many sellers are possibly losing sales because the buyers who don't realize there's a problem didn't get a coupon? Some buyers purposely fav things for that reason -- hoping they'd get a discount coupon.
@ModKenneth Since the other Mod (FabioMcMustache) is no longer on the Forum team, can you give us an update on this?
@TheVintagePineapple -- "Those coupons do not get sent to anyone whose favs are set to private."
Yes they do! I have my faves (items & shops) set to private and I still get coupons and notifications all the time.
@TBQSC Really? I shouldn't assume! lol Thanks for clarifying!
This switching back and forth needs to be fixed. Everything has slowed down in my shop since this problem presented itself.
If we save a setting it should be saved not changed whenever by Etsy.
