Etsy wants my bank details, but doesn't let me add it!

Jump to solution

Basically was a Happy Etsy-er till a month or so back. But now Etsy has changed my payments to Etsy payments (from Paypal), and has a message on payments settings page that my shop will be frozen in a few days, if bank details are not verified. However:

1) My payment settings window has no place to add any bank information.

2) Bank information Etsy has on file (added ages back when I started), are wrong, as I don't have that bank account anymore. I need to update with my actual bank account details.

3) On payment settings page it says my account will be frozen in 8 days if bank details are not verified.

4) My Etsy sales income is held with Etsy.

I got a few responses from Etsy to my numerous mails to support. However, none of them solved the problem. I still don't have a way to input my bank details, let along verify. This should be some bug. And after the initial responses, Etsy didn't respond to my emails for a week or more, then recently emailed again. However, again the solution was a dead end. My income is with Etsy, I have no way to add my bank details, and no one at Etsy is resolving this. And it says my account/shop will be frozen in 8 days.

Please share if you have any insight on this. I just simply want to get back to my work routine and appreciate Etsy as I used to.

FIXED!

Had the same problem uploading my bank statement for a zillion times.....

______Your file must be over 10KB and in .jpg, .pdf, or .png format____________

It was 180 kB JPG just wouldn't budge.

Opened the file in Photoshop, resaved it as a PNG and what do you know. Off it flies, problem solved.

If you go to

finances - payment settings - that's where you update bank details,

If you can't update them, because you no longer have the old number, you have to log a ticket with etsy, specifically state it's an old number, that you no longer have and you can then bypass the old number check.

Can you find it anywhere, like on an old bank statement, or tax return, as they will be quicker than waiting for etsy

....

your shop says you are in Australia, you shouldn't have had paypal in a while, if you are set up as Australia, you have to make sure you are entering an Australian bank account number, with an Australian IBAN

...

Also, If you have a credit card on file, under "billing" you need to make sure that is up-to-date, with a valid expiry date

Thanks so much for your detailed response. The issue is that there is no place to add the bank details on my Finance settings page. And have raised the issue with Etsy a number of times.... however, their responses still point me to finance settings page. And there, I simply don't have an option to add bank details.

@ZahaaraSanctuary

when you click here, there should be a little  "bank details" written with "update" underlined on the right hand side
https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/me/payments?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

and when you are here, you should have your credit/debut card listed

https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/me/payments/settings/billing

and here should be your taxpayer name and address, which should match all the other stuff exactly

https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/me/payments/settings/address

is none of that working?

when etsy email you, they will offer a standard reply, at the bottom it will ask whether this has solved your issue. Respond saying no so they push things forward.

I just replied back so many times, telling that the problem is not solved.... and listing the technical glitch in length/in point form... every which way! But I get a generic response back.... every time. Which simply does not address the fact that I do not have a place to add any bank details. I have all the required information - Australian bank account/ Australian credit card / Australian address. However, there is no place to add this information to proceed.

Can you screenshot the payment account settings page, upload it to somewhere like imgbb and paste the link in reply to this thread?

Thanks for this. Here it is:

https://ibb.co/6gX1f4V

My shop was opened in Australia and I got all my bank details etc in Australia, and my tax commitments are there as well. However at the moment I am in Sri Lanka. I have functioned from here for sometime using Paypal. I told Etsy about all this information. I am happy to just accept paypal. But Etsy system warning says to use Etsy payments and verify your bank information (which I am happy to do too). And when I go to do that it says "Etsy payments are not available in your country".

I have said this to Etsy over and over, sent screenshots.... however, the response is always just to go and add the bank information on the payment settings page etc. Where the payments settings page is a dead end for me as mentioned above.

No offense to Etsy.... they are great.... except when you have a technical or individual problem. And I am just exhausted.... trying to solve it. And it seems very likely soon my shop will be frozen (as the Etsy warning says). And my shop earnings collected not paid to me (as they don't have my bank info). Which I just can't get my head around at the moment.

That'll be why.

The account is and always will be Australia, so it's expects you to have etsy payments so it's telling you to verify.

Etsy changed the back end country to Sri Lanka, to give you paypal, and obviously something somewhere (probably automated) has glitched.

It's unfortunate that even with screenshots etsy can't get their head around the fact you can't do what it's asking.

All you can do is keep replying to their emails that it doesn't solve the issue and tell them again, with the same screenshots, that they themselves switched your country from Aus to Sri Lanka and that the payment settings page will not allow etsy payment details.

Hopefully it'll get to someone who understands...eventually.

Im having the same issues.  This is my 2nd shop, and for some reason I can't verify my bank information or re-load my bank account details.  Every time I load the page, it just says "enroll in Etsy payments".  Its like a bad dream.  Not to mention now my buyers can't even make a purchase from my shop. I know Etsy help is basically like screaming at a brick wall.  Ugh.

Exactly my experience. It's been so frustrating. Because Etsy help keep telling me to just add the information on the Payment settings page - while I keep sending them screenshots showing I DO NOT HAVE any place to add ANY info on the payment settings page. I am really sad and frustrated about this. It says on the page that "your shop is going to be frozen in 5 days or something - and you won't get paid unless you verify your bank details". BUT no place to add ANY INFO.

I am so sorry you are also going through this.

I just love selling on Etsy. It's a sweet, creative, design focused community. And there's way more satisfaction in serving a customer on Etsy, as opposed to other selling channels. CappuccinoLace, you put the pin on the exact issue. It's just a crazy enough glitch, the only problem being so frustratingly, that no one at Etsy support is able to do the simple task of just assigning the shop to just Australia, and letting me quickly update and verify the bank details. I feel like I should be cancelling all my sales, as Etsy has a clear warning that, the shop will be frozen and sales income won't be paid unless bank details are verified. (Verifying bank details being the one simple thing I am trying to do all these days with Etsy support and they are unable to). I can't keep posting items without the guarantee that I won't get paid for them. This for me is like the silliest way to end something great and mutually beneficial - for Etsy, for me, and customers. Mentally I am preparing for the Joke of the century..... that due to a crazy glitch something I built over many years has to come to a abrupt end. Of course I will still do it elsewhere, through other channels. BUT this will always have a "omg! seriously?" memory in my head.

Sad, confused, in disbelief, rolling eyes and shaking head moment.

Thanks every single one of you who were kind enough to stop and give me a minute of your time to try and help and navigate me through this. I really truly appreciate it. At least I feel heard through this silly situation.

Having said this, I will surely keep sending Etsy support messages.... and push as much as I can.... just mentally preparing for the possible negative outcome though (from the experience so far) to avoid disappointment.

Hugs to all.

I am going through the same problem right now.  Etsy support told me that they manually unlinked any previous bank information and to go enter the new bank information  to verify it.  But I don’t get the option that allows me to enter it! If I select any other country, the option comes up, but not for the US.  Etsy support has stopped replying to my messages. I just sent a message to Etsy IG.  I don’t see any phone number to call.  Has anyone here had their issues resolved?

I originally opened the account many years ago and it was then PayPal only.  I haven’t used it in years.

Well I just got a response from the message I sent to Etsy in IG.  Let’s see if they can figure it out.

My shop went ahead and closed. However, as it closed it allowed me to add bank account details and it says I am now signed up with Etsy payments. However, now I have ZERO sales. It went from a lot of sales to NONE after this shift. Has this happened to anyone else?

However, my shop isnt visible because Etsy says i need to add my payment method. But i did that. But going back ti shop manager, payment settings im not given the chancd to add it again. Its just blank and etsy support was of no help and completely ignored my emails asking for help. Im at A loss and dont know what to do

@FortheloveofJuby  :  Every eMail from Etsy support will have a link something like "I Still Need Help". Click on that in each reply from Etsy to keep the report alive. You may have to do this innumerable times, before anything is done but do not give up. DO NOT open a new issue or contact Etsy multiple times about the same issue (doing so closes the one you already opened and puts the new one on the bottom of the pile).

I am currently going through this exact situation! I was having issues with the verification process, and an etsy agent took it upon themselves to unlink my account and told me to just add it again. I don't have the option to, i have the same dreaded yellow box of etsy payments only. I have been going in circles with them for FOUR WEEKS, with myself making contact with etsy at least every other day trying to resolve this, to no avail. I have been told numerous times someone will contact me, and either I get NO contact, or I get some robot generic email that has absolutely nothing to do with the problem. All my funds are stuck in etsy and I have been filling orders out of pocket, and am quite frankly, almost out of money. I can not get any help at all.
