Etsy thumbnail ratio's differ from mobile to desktop

I am posting so hopefully Etsy could see this? I am not sure if they ever read these posts. In 2023, Etsy changed their thumbnail requirements to a square 1:1 ratio so I went ahead and updated all my products to this new format. The problem is they never updated it on the mobile search so it looks horrible for my shop and so many others, why won't they make this simple update to make things consistent because right now we have:

Desktop:
Shop Landing - Square images
Search Engine - Square images
Shop manager - 4:3/Landscape (also so strange to me, everything is square on desktop except this area, why?)

Mobile:
Shop Landing - Square images
Search Engine - 4:3, Landscape (most important to be updated)
Shop manager - 4:3/Landscape

I can't understand the logic behind this and hope they just change the mobile search to show in the 1:1 ratio too. Their update makes sense to square and it was based on data they said but it would also make sense to change it in the mobile search too as we view our phones in a vertical aspect ratio (1:1 square ratio give more vertical viewing vs landscape).

If you make sure your first images work in both landscape and square, you’ll be fine. I upload all mine in 5:4 and ensure the item is centred so it’s not cut off in square views. Etsy has said previously to ensure your images work in different formats. It is bonkers that they can’t get their advice consistent over the last 18 months though.

Money!  Change costs money.  Be careful what you wish for because when Etsy changes one thing they royally screw up something else.

I do 5:4 and make sure item is in center with space around it.  Works for me.

Etsy! Could you consider standardising the display ratio to match the recommended 1:1 format everywhere, including in the Listing Manager and storefront previews on all devices? This would really help sellers create visually cohesive and professional storefronts without second-guessing how their images will be cropped.
