I've had two messages from customers and when I try and reply back I get a red bar that says "cannot send message, if this continues contact Etsy support"

You have only one sale so you don't have 2 customers. Have you been sending unsolicited messages?
It's possible that you weren't contacted by legitimate buyers and that their accounts had already been deleted by Etsy by the time you tried to respond. Did they ask for your email address or did they indicate any problems with the purchase? If yes, then you've been contacted by scammers.

Did you send messages to others? IF so that is misuse of the message system. Buyers may contact you but you cannot contact others such as people who favor your items.
You will need to contact Etsy support. Send them an email. However Etsy usually mutes a seller for a few days to a few weeks. If you want to try and have it lifted sooner or it is wrongully imposed, you need to contact Etsy.
