Etsy is not charging my Hawaii customers enough on shipping. The costs are almost double more than Etsy charged for the shipments. What can I do?

Are you using calculated shipping? Are you shipping via USPS? Etsy only calculates USPS postage. If you ship another way, it might cost more.
Shipping is charged to the buyer and calculated entirely based on how you set it up. Etsy doesn't calculate anything. The cost to the buyer is based on what you enter for shipping. The actual shipping cost is determined by the shipper, which may or may not match what you set up in your listings.
Not always true.
Using usps priority ( I always use it) I weigh use store bought sized boxes clearly printed and it can be off by a lot with a label or without I ship a lot east coast to west however Hawaii is zone 8 so if shipping priority a package should not cost more than if shipping to LA from anywhere USA
You need to weigh and measure your packed packages, and enter that in your listing. Keep in mind that oversize boxes will cost more. (Information on the USPS site) Also set your shipping to charge Post Office prices, not the Etsy discount price for the customer.
I'm confused why etsy asks for my listing weight (unpacked) and product size (not boxed), then my actual package is heavier and larger (and costs me more) than the etsy estimate to my customer.
Are you putting your final package size/weight into the listing info where it asks for it unpacked?
@gluegunstudiosstore: Because if you are using calculated shipping Etsy tries to fit as many items into one of the box sizes (which you have said you use) as possible. Unfortunately they do not seem to allow for the weight of the box so you need to pad the weight a bit.
Maybe use priority mail flat rate? I’m not sure what you ship or if it’s feasible to offer that or not? I like using when I can padded envelopes from priority.
Have you checked into Pirateship? They offer cubic rate pricing and have just come out with even more reduced costs. Can be quite a bit cheaper and their customer service is awesome. They answer any questions right away. Also, if you ship overseas they offer Simple Export rates which are so much cheaper. You just send a chat to them requesting it and they set it up immediately. I ship through Etsy when there is no difference in price but more often than not, Pirateship is cheaper and with great customer service and it's free to set up. They integrate with Etsy and automatically send your message to the buyer when shipped. Etsy marks as shipped when using Pirateship also.
When Etsy starts offering equal pricing as Pirateship I will use Etsy. But until then...
