So I can't find anyone having a discussion about the new Etsy event. (I'm new to Etsy anyways)
I tried replying to the person who made the event to ask but it doesn't allow me to. So here's my question: When you go to RSVP for this event it asks you to grand access to "Bevy OAuth 2.0 Single Sign On" , but under that it says it gives access to all your account !
That doesn't make me feel safe. It doesn't specifically say that by granting access to this "app" that it protects our financial information. Does anyone have any info on this?
Thanks In advance,
My understanding is that all of these events are pre-recorded and can be watched afterwards without signing up and giving them any sort of access. I am not aware of there being any real benefit to sign up and watch them live, as I've never heard of one actually being live (like there's no Q&A session or any other interaction). Might as well just wait until the event is over then watch it (I think they're normally posted to youtube afterwards, but someone else may know for sure).
Hi folks,
Our seller events platform is powered by a third party called Bevy. Bevy is a tool that requires users to sign in with their Etsy shop information. We use secure sign-in processes (the single sign-on mentioned by @GroovyKatVibes above) to ensure verified Etsy sellers can access Etsy-led events and experiences.

@GroovyKatVibes: Bevy is a third party provider that Etsy uses for these kinds of events https://events.bevy.com/
Agree with you that having to give a third party seemingly unlimited account access appears to be unnecessary and over reaching just to participate in a video conference.
I’m glad you asked; I’m also wondering about whether this is a good and safe thing to sign up for. I don’t know.
They have been advertising it at the top of this page for weeks. Blue notice. I think we tend to just pass it by not even reading them anymore.
I just saw this too. I was excited to sign up for the event... but this scared me away... seems over-the-top for an event registration.
I wanted to sign up also not comfortable with giving access to my account. Can't be too careful these days. Wish there was another option.
Also wanted to sign up, but closed the page as soon as I saw the part about giving access to a 3rd party. How to keep your account secure.. do not let anyone except for yourself near it!
I can’t really see any reason for us to give access to our account, and Etsy should be protecting us from anything like this.
Strange.

Hi ThatRegina - The issue I had with this is that if you try to RSVP from the landing page, it takes you to a page that says this (please read carefully):
"The application Bevy OAuth 2.0 Single Sign On is trying to connect to your account.
"You should be seeing this message because you’re using an Etsy App. If you didn’t come to this page through an Etsy App, or if you followed a link in an email or chat, close this window now."
Since I am on a browser on my computer, I am instructed to NOT click that button but to close the window. So how do I do it?
I spent a LONG time on seller support chat trying to get an answer to this. They said they would send the query to the tech people who would email me about it. That was more than a week ago, and no email. I'm interested, but your system is providing no way to check in, and support appears to be ignoring the problem.
Is this event recorded for watching later? I'm in Australia and I'm not getting up at 3am to watch this. I wouldn't take anything in if I did.
Hi @DivineMiniaturesShop! Yes, the video will be available to watch after the event.
I scheduled time off work to attend Etsy Up last year, even though the only info given was a starting time and that there would be some giveaways. I didn't know what to expect, but also had no idea how much time to take off! There was no agenda, nothing about what would be covered, nothing.
It ended up being a huge disappointment. Everything was pre-recorded, highly-produced, and quite generic--all the content was available in its exact form (pre-recorded videos) online after the live event. It was hosted as a YouTube live, and it lasted an hour and a half. The only live anything was the chat feature. They kept giving away things like Etsy gift cards, but there were so many people, the chance of you winning anything was miniscule.
I was hoping this year might offer something more substantive--at least an agenda and an end time! Maybe even different workshops to choose from, question-answer sessions, etc. But all signs point to it being the same. For starters, once again, there is zero info about it available.
I definitely don't recommend attending, and especially don't recommend you planning your schedule around it.
I have to say that is highly unprofessional to not even give an indication of the length of the event or provide any agenda ... that's the most basic of meeting etiquette & gives the impression they do not respect the time of sellers.
"You should be seeing this message because you’re using an Etsy App. If you didn’t come to this page through an Etsy App, or if you followed a link in an email or chat, close this window now."
since i was on my computer.
i closed that window immediately.
not everyone uses the app.
and it is weird to see that message when i am NOT using the app.
and what difference does it make.
why can i not sign up through my browser?
plus that message makes it sound scary.
like i did something bad.
by clicking on a link FROM ETSY.
I am signed up but as we can watch later I will do that
I was signing up and then didn't like the access thing so disallowed it and closed the window. I didn't like that at all and I too was not using the app. So I will not be registering for Etsy Up. I did it before and did not have to give access, so, no, not this time.
I never have 'daytime' time to do stuff like this. So I always watch later. Normally, Etsy provides some link to a Youtube or other viewing platform. I like that because I can go to the sections that seem applicable to me.
Can someone tell me please why Etsy automatically sign you in for discount event and why on email sent said up to 30%off and then you get a sale with 50% off
Well annoyed about this dodgy practice .. will post this last order and close my shop
I don't think it's unsafe. In my opinion, it's fine. No need to worry. But everyone has their own opinion......
