Emails asking for an email

Jump to solution

I am getting emails on my Etsy account, asking various sellers for their email. They are against items I am not selling. I have 2 Factor on and changed my password. Is there any way of stopping these emails coming through? Seems to be a security breach and spamming

They are a scam.  Simply mark them as spam and they should be blocked.

It's a scam.  Just mark them as spam and don't respond.  I really don't know what Etsy is doing about them.

Just mark them as spam. So many scams going on I have lost count.

These are definitely scams!!!! Do not engage. Just mark them as spam.

They are reaching out to newer shops and not even noticing that you have nothing currently for sale. Lazy bots

@RetroStoreGlobal: "I am getting emails on my Etsy account" Are you getting eMails or Etsy Messages? If it is Etsy Messages then just mark them as spam and they will not affect your stats. Based on other posts, Etsy has been shutting down quite a few of the offending accounts but the scammers can probably open them faster than they can be identified and closed. If you are actually getting eMails then you will need to implement some filtering on your eMail account.

Yes it was Etsy messages. Havent had any since I updated my password and ensured two factor. The thing was they were emailing sellers appearing to be me. So they must be able to appear as genuine accountsas the sellers are responding thinking I’m asking the question.

Please check your Sent folder here on Etsy. If you see messages there that you are sure you did not send, then your account has been hacked.

These scammers hack legitimate accounts and use them to send their fraudulent messages.

I believe this is what’s happened. They must have found my email online and used this as the store was changed to France. I have attempted to secure my account. So will keep an eye on any sent messages.

My account was hacked yesterday and someone sent out over 50 messages!  They started off with just Hi or Hey and then if someone replied they asked for email address.   I don't sell on etsy and I hardly even buy.  My password was changed, and then access to my account was limited when I tried to reset the password.  Finally this morning I was able to reset the password and set up the 2FA.  What a pain!   I would think Etsy could at least put up a big warning to people about just ignoring these spam emails?   I can't imagine how frustrating it is to people that earn a living selling on here!

I think its important for seller accountsto know who and who not to interact with. I would hope if its happening on this scale, further security measures be introduced. Even with two factor security on it is still being breached. Thanks for highlighting the problem. If the community can get together and ask for security reviews.

To go YouTube and search for 'How To Find And See Your Sign In History on Etsy'

That video will show you where you can view recent log ins on your account so you can see if, for instance, someone in another country is logging in. You can then log them out. Be aware however that locations are approximate and may be that of your internet provider.

@sweetstuffwebshop  Hi, As long as you didn't give banking information (which is mostly what these fools are after). But I would still run virus check on your devices, just to be safe.

Check out the Etsy Announcement at the top of the Forum, "Protect Your Account From Scammers". It's a huge problem, and they are targeting new Sellers as well as seasoned ones.
A Buyer will never need your email for an Order; Etsy has it.  When you have a LEGIT Order, it will appear in your "Orders & Shipping" Page (Left Column in Shop Dashboard). If it isn't there, you have no Order.

Also, scammers are impersonating Etsy Staff/Support, etc. If you receive an Etsy Message and it's REALLY from Etsy, it will appear in your "From Etsy" Folder (in Messages). Any other Messages, Mark as Spam (just so you don't get dinged for S Seller).

I'm really sorry you were targeted, and hope this helps. Have a great weekend!
