They did this in the beginning of October this year and it lasted for a month.
It was not a bug but a test they would not acknowledge. Well, the help desk claimed they had no complaints of this nature (not true) They could not replicate the problem on their end (of course not, they were not part of the test).
I do not know if they were lying to me. It could also be that there is absolutely NO communication between the technical engineers and help support people.
I know of a dozen shops that have this problem including me as of today. It might be only a quarter of the shops I follow but that could end up affecting hundreds of thousands of shops.
A big shake-up at the higher echelons of Etsy was announce earlier this week. Let us all hope and pray that a positive change is on the way. (just don’t hold your breath)!!!
Looks like they are doing that again. I added a favorite yesterday and I'm guessing that's when it went to private, just like last time.
Yep, I did a favorite yesterday and now mine are private too.
Maybe they're trying to limit those "VIEWS & FAVES" games?
@Natalya1905 That might be one reason. There has been an uptick in the game playing lately.
Perhaps that is one reason they are doing it. Those games happen on facebook too, only it instead involves tagging other business pages in posts and starting a "follow train".
Some businesses I engage with on Facebook decided to do that, and my business page ended up getting tagged in a bunch of stuff. They were all excited to have all these new followers and post engagement, and I did not participate because I knew it wouldn't end great for everyone.
About a week later, some of those business pages that did the most "follow farming" ended up getting their accounts restricted on facebook for spamming and not one understood why. I didn't say anything - I did not want to engage with any of that in any way and put myself at risk.
I’m not sure we’ll see much improvement with the recent leadership changes Etsy announced. Kruti Patel Goyal, who was the CEO of Depop, is now stepping into the role of Etsy’s President and Chief Growth Officer. However, considering that Depop has stagnated during her tenure, I’m not confident this move bodes well for Etsy.
Also, does anyone else find it odd that she’s taking what seems like a title downgrade to join Etsy? She’ll even be splitting her time between Etsy and Depop through April, which makes me question how much attention she can truly give Etsy in the meantime. And speaking of Depop, has anyone heard who might be stepping in to replace her there?
As for Lanny Baker, Etsy’s new CFO, he’s coming from Eventbrite. While I’m uncertain how his experience there translates to Etsy’s needs, having someone with prior CFO experience shouldn’t hurt.

I don't know. Kind of torn on this one. I think I like the idea of them being private as it can have some benefits to buyers and sellers. Yet I can see benefits the other way. But I am kind of today leaning towards making them private. May change my mind tomorrow.
.
My faves are public on purpose, but if Etsy changed them to private I wouldn't even notice.
My faves are private and they are only shops.. I stopped doing faves for items long ago as the constant pop ups for sales and whatever was making me nutty--lol
@FabioMcMustache It's happening again. Add an item to our public favorites list and it automatically changes it to private.
