Discount Price for Additional Quantities of Items Sold, and Keeping Accurate Tally in Inventory

I'm not sure how to word this . . .

How do I set the quantity variation when I want to discount the price for a second or a third identical item as several items go into the shopper's cart? And how does the number of items in my inventory get reduced?

For instance . . . I sell widgets for $10.00 apiece. I want to sell two (2) for $19.00 and three (3) for $27.00, and so on. I start off with 100 widgets in my supply inventory. I know how to set the variation for different sizes or color or styles of a particular object, even if prices vary for each variation. I also understand how the cart works when the shopper wants to buy multiples of an items at a multiple of the single price and how the tally in the inventory reduces based on how many items are actually sold.

I hope this is clear.

Thanks.

The only way to do this on Etsy is to use the variations and label the first one something like Pack Size.

Then have options:

1 Widget = $10.00

2 Widgets = $19.00

3 Widgets = £27.00

4 Widgets = ??

5 Widgets = ?

Etsy doesn't provide a tool for you to keep count, you will need to monitor the listing yourself and add quantities as they run out.

Bear in mind there are only 2 Variations available so you will only be able to add a colour or a design after the pack size.  Pack size needs to be first as that is the variation where you set prices.

I hope this helps.

PS.  You haven't set your store location.  This means when buyers filter to US only, your shop is excluded.

Re: Discount Price for Additional Quantities of Items Sold, and Keeping Accurate Tally in Inventory

Yeah, this is pretty much what I thought. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

So . . . if I have 100 units in inventory, I can set up 10 packs of 3, 20 packs of 2, and 30 single packs. Then as each variation sells, I can see at a glance how many units remain in inventory and re-arrange the packs as desired (or restock with additional units) and still be sure that the total inventory is not exhausted or over-sold by a single massive purchase. In the general scheme of things, this would not be too cumbersome.

PS  I added my location.

@MicroDesign360: As @JJewellerySuppliesUK explained so well, the variations system is not really set up for what you want to do. You will have to distribute the inventory between the pack sizes initially (i.e. for your 100 widgets something like 20 1-packs, 25 2-packs, 10 3-packs) and then continually shift inventory around as different pack sizes sell. For us, however, the greatest limitation is that you cannot have different shipping weights for each variation.

@BagmakerSupply That's my biggest complaint, too. If I need more postage for the bigger pack, I have to hide part of it in the product price, which defeats the purpose of giving a little discount for a larger quantity. But if I charge what the largest pack needs, then I am overcharging for postage on a single item, and customers know this.

If you really want to keep track of inventory in the way you describe, you'll need to use a third party app/service. I use Trunk, and set up listings exactly as you have described. It syncs inventory with other venues as well.
