For a while now customers have not been able to remove automatically applied coupon codes at checkout to take advantage of current sales to receive the greater discount. For example items are on sale 50% off and they will see that in their cart, but when they go to actually checkout, the sales prices and discounts are removed and the automatically applied 10% code applies at checkout which raises the price. They remove it over and over and it keeps automatically applying.. I have had this complaint from customers for months now and really don't know how to assist them since it just continues to automatically apply the discount. Please help.
Where is the “automatically applied” coupon coming from? I can see from your store that you have a 50 or 60% off sale running. That would be automatically applied at the checkout.
Are you sending them the link instead of the code?
Edited to add: If they get the link and click on it, then it is automatically added to the cart. If they get the code, they have to physically type it in to the space.
The only thing I can think that might work is to cancel the coupon and then set it up again with the same name. If it is cancelled, hopefully it will be removed from the cart and when you recreate it with the same name the people that already have the code can use it.
