on 13th October a customer made a purchase on my print on demand shop. The order was shipped out from printify and it seems that the given address was wrong with missing apartment number.
2 days ago on the 13th of November a month after the purchase the customer mentioned via etsy messages that his order was returned to sender and asked if he could get a refund. He contacted his local post office and said that this item was returned back to sender. I have now contacted printify and said that they would be able to refund the production cost of this order.
What is the best and a fair resolution to this situation? I`m only starting out and this is my first time encountering this issue. Should this be a partial refund, a full refund or how should this be resolved since it was a customer error?
I would not refund. Before the buyer pays they get 2 chances to check if their address is correct.
On normal orders the wrong address is the customers problem, not mine. But POD and drop shipping is a whole other area. Since it was shipped back to the printer if that is what you are saying, and they/ you have it, refund minus the shipping, depending on what country you are in.
Edited.
Seller is in Malta, part of the EU. The EU requires that a buyer can cancel the contract at any time upto 14 days after delivery for full refund including shipping. The seller's supply chain being POD has no relevance to the consumer rights laws between buyer & seller.
The seller is being refunded production cost by the POD, so it is not a full loss for the seller this time.
Refund, move on.
The seller's EU shop has incomplete shop policies, no seller details, and illegal returns policies on listings, so would automatically be forced to refund (and get a black mark against the shop) if the buyer made a claim to Etsy.

If the buyer starts a dispute with Etsy, they will win. They didn't receive their order.
