I just experienced a very confusing time with a previous customer. I sell personalized items and send proofs for review. When I send a message through a new order it isn't attaching the message to the new order as it previously did, but instead lumping it in a very old convo. I just got the message that Etsy changed messaging. I want to say that this isn't a good idea at all! How are we supposed to be organized and give our customers a great experience when it's lumping stuff into old orders and not the current order. I have customers that are now confused when everything was working perfectly fine before. I need my proofs that I send for an order to be attached to the actual open order and not some completed order.
Please change it back!
Etsy did it so that star sellers would not get dinged for any new messages (e.g. from a buyer saying thanks and needed no response). I don't do personalized, but it's an awful change that was made. Etsy can't seem to get anything right these days.
As @UniqueGiftOrnaments said, Etsy did this on purpose to help "simplify" things. I'm not sure that's the word I would use. LOL.

I am not a fan. I now go into an order and can't find the message. It does not help shop owners stay organized and it is very confusing.
Yes, as others said this is the new "bundling" of Messages; to make it easier for the Seller. Here is a Thread fr. Admin (top of Tech. Issues, in case you haven't seen it). I thought it looked like bundling may be tweaked, but I don't think so anymore.

ETA: I can see the confusion when it links to OLD Orders rather than new (fr. what others are saying (my Shop is on Vacation).
