Connection error during authentication

Has anyone gotten then error when they are trying to sign in?  Big red rectangle error message across the sign in window.

I tried Foxfire, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge.  Had the issue on all three.  Deleted cookies/history...tried 3 more times on each.  Finally, on the 4th try for Foxfire I got in.

It is not a password error...but it sure freaked me out.  I just about pooped my pants.

Wondering if Etsy was down...but I was able to go to Etsy and look around without signing in....

I hope I am not the only one this has happed to...

Their authentication server was down.

But it has been going on for months now.  Every single time I type my password in, it get the red box message that it is wrong.  And the only correction I need to make is to the non-alphanumeric portion.  I literally only have to delete and retype the same symbol and it accepts it.

I just had this happen to me. I couldn't log into my shop. I tried several browsers and nothing. I started to freak and think my shop was hacked. I just got off the phone with Etsy support and they had me change my password and then I was able to log in.

I've had that error for about a year or more.  I just closed down the box and try again.

I don't look for them to fix it as it has been a year for me.

@ChillwolfArt  Etsy will never admit to an issue.  They will pretend this never happened. 

Edited to add...maybe I am wrong...but as mentioned why post it on Twitter and not on the site?

@PatCahillMetalworks   @Jewels2at  I don't even use social media (personal preference).  Etsy needs to communicate here, on their site. In addition to if they want.  People shouldn't have to go off the site to see SITE ISSUES.

@ErinJPhotos   I agree with this.  But many Sellers were posting, inquiring of others about it.  With the amount of Hacked Threads going on, some even wondered if that was the case.  So once Etsy was indeed back up, a Community Announcement would go a long way to assuage the fears.  I don't think it's too much to ask of them.

Hitting refresh works and is faster than having to put the info in all over again. I know it's not a mistake in my typing because if I do type the password in wrong, I get a different error message that states that the password is wrong.

I have been getting the red rectangle error for some time now and have just gotten used to hitting refresh. This was different this time though. There were a couple of different bits of text in the red rectangle including something about authentication that was not what was usually in the rectangle. I tried refresh, retyping, etc. and nothing. Even my other shop which has not had the red rectangle error issue had trouble earlier. I was glad to be able to get in now and see that there was a reason for the problem.

@ChillwolfArtYou don't have to use Twitter to see the status. You can go to etsystatus[dot]com . (obviously type an actual dot instead). It makes sense to have a separate site to be able to check on technical issues so that if you can't get on the site as I couldn't earlier, you can see if the problem is at Etsy's end or the user's end.

@EDCCollective   Thank You.  I agree with you re: it makes sense to have a separate site to check on tech. issues if you can't get on this site, as was the case earlier for you and others. But we are on this site, and there really should be an Announcement at the top of Tech. Issues.  It's a Known Glitch.

This has been happening to me for several months now!  I even wondered if it was a keyboard issue on my computer because it always involves the non-alphabetic symbol included in my password.  So I changed my password, but same issue!  Instead of retyping the entire password, if I just delete and retype that one symbol, it takes it and I get in.  But this is getting OLD.  Etsy, please fix this issue.  Thanks

Happened again today!  Had to retype just that one symbol of my password.  Maybe if all of us experiencing this issue posted an update to this thread every day it would get noticed??

And again today and again it is just the non-alphabetic symbol that has to be retyped.  And yes, I have tried changing my password to use other symbols.  But the problem persists.

Same thing again today.  Just one digit of a password had to be retyped.  Same symbol.  Doesn't matter how many times I change my password to use other symbols.
