Jump to solution

Im sending offers (custom listings) to custmer and when they click on the

the link its taking them to my shop home page instead of the actual product. Is anyone

experiencing this glitch? Looks like they updated the code and now this an issue for me.

@ThePrintShopCorner  Is it published in your shop, or is it a private listing you created thru messages?

Are you asking about individual listings in your shop for the customer to view for a custom listing?  Does the url contain the listing number?

Or is this a custom listing that you have published in your shop for the buyer?  That link has the individual number for a listing?

Or is this totally a custom listing created through messages? That would be a private one created by you but I think it would still have the distinctive number of a created listing for a buyer to purchase.

I'm having this issue as well. And everything is operating fine on my end - so it's hard for me to help customers navigate through this.

Sorry I don't have a solution - just letting you know you aren't alone. Thought it was a fluke for the first customer. But now its another one having issues.

I see that this post is from 3 weeks ago but I believe this is an ongoing issue. It's confusing to try to convey the issue and, as far as I can tell, it hasn't been addressed by Etsy. Probably because it's difficult to understand the problem. I'm going to paste my comment from another post in the hope that added information will help us get some help and find a solution. I think the OP is right that this is a simple coding issue but to resolve the issue, it has to first be understood. I hope this helps:

For the last few weeks, when I go to my listings, click the little gear icon ("Manage this Listing") for the drop down menu, then click the "share" (share this listing) option and "copy" the link to that listing, then paste the link in an Etsy Message for my customer, the customer comes back and tells me that the link doesn't take her to a specific item but to a "bunch of items." This has happened several times now so I came to the Forums to see if anyone else is having this issue. This post is the closest I could find. I'm hoping if I resurrect this question with more information, perhaps someone can help. I use this function all the time. It was created years ago so that we could share links to our items with our current customers easily and quickly when they ask for a specific item and it's a huge time saver. But now I have had to revert back to the old way of sharing listings which requires leaving my Shop Manager, finding the item in my shop and copying and pasting the URL into our conversation. This works for the customer but it takes much more time to do.

I think the share function for listings in our Shop Manager is malfunctioning.

Yes, same thing here!  And if you are quickly trying to get them the information from your phone, you can't because only option is the click and share button.  I'm not seeing anything addressing this. . .

Same exact thing is happening to me! I contacted Etsy about it. Hoping they will fix it soon. It is very strange because when I click on the link in the message it takes me to the right place but not the customer. It seems like it started ever since they discounted fees when sharing links, but if the links don't work I imagine the seller fee discount isn't going to apply either. It is frustrating! In order to share my links I have to find them on my shop in the public view and copy&paste from the address bar now.

Is this on the old or new listing tool?

I had a long chat session with Etsy Help last night. I sent screen shots and gave detailed explanations. The representative said he would pass on all the information to the technical people and they would communicate with me through email. I don't expect to hear anything until next week since it's the weekend but, fingers crossed, maybe they can fix this. I didn't have any idea how much I used the "copy and share" link on a daily basis until it stopped working. [I'm posting this on both threads about this issue.]

I've been having this issue as well.  Sometimes the links work fine, sometimes they don't.  Some customers have been patient enough to try multiple times and eventually they get to the listing rather than be brought to the homepage.

It seems Etsy is tinkering with our listing pages and dashboard, hopefully all will go back to normal soon. It's annoying to look like I don't know what I'm doing and am sending the wrong link to buyers.

I'm giving up this quest. I've been advised to ask my customers to do the technical troubleshooting steps ... clear cache, switch browsers, etc. The customers who told me about this issue are not technically savvy and I feel sure nothing would come of inconveniencing them in this way. I'm just going to let this drop and continue to use my workaround ... using the URL at the top of a specific listing. I've sped up this process by keeping a tab open on my shop's front page so I can quickly search for the listing I want and copy and paste the URL into my message with the customer. This is working even though it's time consuming. At least my customers aren't confused by getting my entire shop when they only wanted one specific listing. This will have to do for now.

I'll keep an eye on this and the other thread in case someone comes up with a better, and faster, workaround or, even better, to hear news of a resolution to this issue. Fingers crossed!

I'm having it with every customer that I click and share the link with.  I hope they get it figured out.

Yes, that's right, Talisman, it always works for me too. The link showing in the message thread shows the correct item and, when I click it, I arrive at the listing itself. The problem is when the customer clicks it, they sometimes go to the front page of my shop rather than to the specific listing in the link. This confuses them when what I'm trying to do is help them easily find what they need like "add a charm to my order" or "upgrade to a faster shipping method" ... that sort of thing. It really needs to be quick and easy for them so they don't have to search through my entire shop.

It's a confusing issue and difficult to understand, hence the delay in getting this issue resolved. I've spent a lot of time trying to explain it to "Etsy Chat" with no resolution.

As I said in my last post, I've given up trying to bring back the lovely, quick and easy-to-use method of sending a link to a customer and I'm now just sending the URL from my listing like we did back in "the olden days."

I'm keeping an eye on this thread in case it's ever resolved. Fingers crossed!

Yes I too can get it to hi to listing but the customers say it doesn’t. It either goes to home page or shows sold out

same thing is happening to my customers. It's random and only happens some of the time. so frustrating because I can't see it but when they click on the link that I've shared it takes them to my home page instead of to the listing that I created for them. Now I have to ask them to go and search for the listing. Kind of defeats the purpose of "share and save"

Re: Code Issue: Listing Link Sending to Home Page Shop

I think it bears repeating because it looks like some of you missed the workaround posted above:

Instead of using the "share" button for the listing on our dashboard, which isn't working right now, open a new tab and go outside to your Etsy Shop (as if you are a customer) and copy the URL at the top of the page of the listing you want to share. Then switch back to the tab where you are messaging your customer and paste that URL there in your message thread. This is the old way of doing it and, obviously, takes more time, but it's a workaround that keeps your customer from having to search.

I hope this helps!

This is still happening.  I have lost a few sales over this as it's happening with buyers on the buyer's phone app and they say they never received the link, it just takes them to my home page or they get a "leaving ETSY" message.  I have just finally stopped using the copy listing link and have instead starting copy/paste with the whole URL for the listing.

@DIYslipcovers  This is an old thread and seems it is not covering what the OP originally wrote.  It would be best if you made your own thread with more information on what you are experiencing
