This is long, but I come prepared with excessive detail lol.
I’m posting this under my main account, because on the other shop that I’m having problems with (TheWrongAliceArts), the forum doesn’t allow me to post to the Technical Issues forum. It says I’m not a seller, even though I am, which just adds to the mystery of my problems below.
I’m on day 4 or 5 of reopening an old shop (TheWrongAliceArts) to sell some of my art.
It will not allow me to add a new card.
I’ve done a lot of digging and this appears to be a common issue that’s never been fully resolved.
I’ve already contacted Etsy support and run through their usual suggestions. I’ve left them several updates over the weekend as I’ve tried other things, and I’m waiting to hopefully hear back from them again. I will contact my bank just to confirm there’s nothing wrong with their side of things, but I’m pretty confident they’re not the issue.
I keep getting a red banner popup that says, “error processing your request.”
I’ve tried 3 different devices, including the app on my phone and 2 PCs.
I’ve tried 3 different browsers, including Chrome, Edge, and Opera.
I’ve tried turning off ad blocker, as well as trying incognito.
I’ve cleared my cache.
I’ve restarted my computer.
I’ve logged in and out several times.
I’ve made sure all of my information matches across the board.
I’d already turned off vacation mode last week to get some work done, so I tried putting it back into vacation mode, and of course that did nothing.
I’ve tried going through with a purchase as per suggestions from around the web, and it will not accept my card that way either (similar error message), meaning I can't even make purchases unless I switch back to this account... just to use the exact same card.
I’ve also tried adding 2 items to the shop in the hopes of knocking something loose, but no such luck.
I’m coming into this problem with a different set of circumstances than I’ve seen from most others posting about this issue, because in my case the card I’m using is already attached to my main shop (EatMeBoutique). I know there’s no problem with this card on Etsy. I am able to use this card without issue on my main shop, as evidenced by paying off my Etsy balance for the month yesterday.
My mother, who is also planning to reopen an old shop, was able to add her new card to her shop without issue today. No muss, no fuss, no error message. We use the same bank and have the same type of card.
The main difference I can find seems to be that her account actually allowed her to go to her Billing page where your attached cards are displayed. My EatMe account allows me into that page as well. I cannot get to that same page from this other shop. I’m seeing something entirely different, and it just has an ‘add card’ button.
For some other details just in case they’re relevant, it looks like I opened TheWrongAliceArts (under a different name) in 2011, shortly after opening EatMeBoutique. I don’t recall when I shut it down, but based on old listing expiration dates, I’d wager it was 2018. I do know for a fact that I shut EatMe down in 2018, and did not have any of these problems when reopening that shop in 2023. I did the same rebranding/reopening stuff with EatMe that I’m doing in this shop (name change, email change, new card, etc.) without issue.
There’s no outstanding balance from before that I can see, and the account was in good standing. Never had any issues or warnings, only ever had a few sales and those had good reviews, no opened cases, and always paid fees on time. It was all just my wildlife photography back then, so no copyright/trademark issues.
Whatever’s going on seems to be specific to that account, and I can only assume that this shop is part of one of their ‘tests’ that’s causing me to see something entirely different from everyone else?
I figured I’d hop into the forum to see if someone has a workaround for it or a suggestion that I haven’t already tried. I appreciate anything you've got!
Giving this a bump for visibility. The more I research this issue, the more I'm seeing that it has turned away countless sellers AND buyers over the years, yet this has never been fixed by Etsy.
It's 2025. One of the posts I'm reading elsewhere is from 2 years ago. Their issue was never resolved and they took their business to another platform.
