Can not checkout and make a purchase

I am a seller and know of some of  the shop issues going on this week. However, I just tried to make a purchase and received the following error message - "Oh dear. There was a problem submitting your order. Please give it another shot. If you continue to have problems please contact support". I tried 3 times and the same message so this is very concerning if some buyers like myself can not even check out. I know in my shop is much slower this weekend than normal but some purchases.

I have learned when this happens, it's because they have not updated their Etsy App. Have them update it or delete and redownload. I dont know why but that has always fixed it for my customers when they can't check out.

It was not from the app I attempted to purchase. Tried again this morning and same error message.

Make certain that you are not being charged for multiple purchases.  I had this problem last year and was charged three times and the seller did not refund me for the multiple purchases even after writing to them.  I had to appeal (and won).

I was contacted by a customer yesterday who is having the same problem. She tried using the app and a browser, and via Apple Pay and her credit card. 
As of an hour ago, she still can’t purchase my item. Might explain why I haven’t had a sale since Sunday

Have you tried removing the items from your cart and re-adding them?

Also, you're just trying to purchase from one seller, right?

Yes, I just tried removing the items and re-adding them.  I even tried paypal instead of cc.  Still get the same message.

I'm also having this issue as a buyer. I'm trying to purchase from 3 different shops this morning and am unable to finish the checkout process. I get the following error "Oh dear. There was a problem submitting your order." I've tried my bank card, my credit card, and paypal and keep getting the same error. I've cleared my cache on my laptop and made sure 3rd party cookies were allowed. I'm at my parents on their wifi  and switched to my phones wifi just in case, but this has not made a difference either. Both of my cards used are not expired, correct billing address, etc. Everything is correct on my end. Very frustrating!

@o9ofzvnm78riietpThis is a very old thread, and since then, scammers began targetting new sellers.  If you received a message that a custome is having difficulty and Etsy told them they need your email, it's a scam.

It's best to start your own thread rather than bump up an old one, with detailed info and any error message received.

A customer of my shop had this problem a few days ago.  She tried to purchase, but her credit card was denied.  She knew that couldn't be the problem because she uses that credit card regularly with no problems.  She was good enough to write to me.  At first I told her to contact her credit card company, but she came up with the solution herself.  She tried it through PayPal and it worked just fine.  This customer should not have had her credit cards denied through Etsy Payments.  What's happening on the Etsy side with this?  I wonder how many other sales I have lost because of this.
