Hi all, whenever someone buys 2 or more things from my shop, Etsy gives me (and charges the buyer for) multiple labels. I understand that this is because, for some shops, more than one item means a different/larger packaging, more weight, and therefore shipping costs more.
The issue is that my items only weigh 1 oz each and are fairly small, so I ship multiples in the same package with just one of the labels Etsy gave me to buy. My concern is that when buyers see that the shipping cost that was advertised as $3-4 on the items listing suddenly changed to $16-$20 in their cart, it will discourage them from buying from my shop at all, and I'll lose many potential sales at the fault of Etsy!!
This is such an easy fix for Etsy. It's so disappointing that they continue to ignore their sellers, because I have searched all over for a solution to this and the only thing I can find is just "refund the buyer the overcharge". But I don't want to do that because it's just unnecessarily complicated to do it that way because the only option for refunds on Etsy are refunds for the whole item. I have to use a third-party app like Venmo or Paypal to partially refund the buyer the shipping cost. Etsy has the ability to fix it once and for all, or even implement a feature that prevents this from happening. This is so incredibly frustrating! Does anyone have any suggestions at all??
Etsy charges shipping based on your input. The charges is entirely dependent on how you set up your shipping profiles. You can adjust your shipping profiles to allow for more items at the same shipping price, at a discounted shipping price, or have it calculate shipping depending in the weight. All the tools are there for you to correctly calculate shipping charged down to the exact cost of the label if you want.
If buyers are buying multiples in one order and you are getting multiple labels showing, you don't have you package sizes set correctly.

The only time I get multiple labels is when the total weight is over 15 ounces. You can do a partial refund thru Etsy. I do it all the time. There is even an option for refunding shipping overages.
The fault isn't with Etsy. It's because you have the same shipping amount in the ''one item'' box and the ''additional item'' box. One keychain will cost $4.13, so figure out how much more it'll cost you to mail 2 keychains. Put the extra amount needed in the additional item box.
Where are you seeing the one item and additional item boxes? I can’t even find that

Yes ^^. The OP is using calculated shipping and didn't include different package options.
Do you have your shipping profiles set up correctly? Are you using fixed price or calculated? My items are light as well so I use fixed and put a small charge, such as 25 cents in the ship with another item box. That way buyers are never over charged.
I'm new...If I have a listing which has, say 5 exact towels in different colors and are listed as such, and the buyer selects 4, is it necessary for me to set a shipping profile for 1 and then 2, then 3, then 4, and so on depending on how many items I have that are exact? I use Etsy to calculate and all would weigh the same so I'd just add the weight together, so I'm confused on how to set this up. I want it to be very clear to the shopper AND to me how much shipping will be. Sadly I'm not large enough yet to offer much free shipping. Thanks for any help.
You can’t do a partial refund on the app, you can only do that on a browser. The app is limited in many ways and really can’t be used efficiently to run a store.
I too often have to refund the buyer because they bought more than one item. I sell vintage and almost always the items are different sizes and shapes.
And Ive also had Etsy print 2 labels for 3 items of the same thing.
Hi I’m new to Etsy. I have the same problem. How do I refund the customer for one of the labels. They bought multiple items from my store. It’s giving me 2 labels? I can fit all 3 items in one. Do I need to purchase the label first or can u do it before purchasing?
Good morning @Customeyesby3D
You should really start a new thread, if you need assistance.
Putting your query on a old thread, will only get it closed down.
Anyway, Just purchase the label for order 1, pack all the items in one box and stick the same tracking number on the orders
Click the 3 little dots on the right of the order, which will show a drop down box. Click refund.
Choose the reason and the amount. And you can refund just the overage postage costs back to your customer.
Oh, just looked at your shop, you may want to seriously read this before you risk shop closure or worse
