Hi. I got this error while I was supposed to message a buyer for the first time regarding a refund. And by first time, it will be my first ever message too so I don't know why it's disabled. What seems to be the cause?
Hello!
Prior to posting in a thread in the Forums, we ask that you please check if you are not bumping an old thread that hasn't seen any activity in a few months (or years, even).
Please note that reviving old threads can cause confusion for members reading, so always check the dates of the most recent replies before posting.
Having said that, we are closing this thread as it is indeed a bit older, and the information contained here may be outdated, however feel free to start your own thread if you still would like to discuss this topic.
Thank you!

Have you sent a bunch of message to other people?
No. It'll be my first ever message but it's already disabled.
Usually the cause is sending too many messages in a short period of time.
Have you been bombarding other sellers or buyers?
Since you've never sent a message before, this may be a glitch. Reach out to Etsy Support as the message you received instructed.
Not the ideal situation but you do have the customer's e mail address - try Etsy support first.
As the message says, please contact support. Only they can tell you why they were disabled (and it's even a maybe for that), and only they can reinstate the messaging feature.
As you can see most people will assume you've been sending out a bunch of messages, because that's the only reason many of us have seen the message mute applied to a shop. I know I've never seen it before applied to a shop that claims to have not sent any messages out.
Hi Audrey and many thanks for any assistance you may be able to tender. I've only replied to one message since opening my shop a couple of weeks back and my messaging has been disabled. Based in the UK I have trawled through multiple pages across the Etsy support and literally gone around in circles and unable to find an option that allows me to contact the correct support team. I don't suppose you have any links you could share? Thanks again, Shaun
