Every time that I try to access the dashboard of my shop I get a message saying that the page is infected with a trojan: JS:Trojan.JS.Agent.RX - how do I remove this? I can access other parts of Etsy without any problem. I have just opened the shop after an enforced vacation due to a broken leg and just starting to get sales again so I don't want this to screw it all up for me, please help!
If you have antivirus installed you need to scan your whole system. https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/23300-js-agent-trojan
It's the first thing that I did - just to be sure. However the way that the Bitdefender extension works is that it flags infected web pages before you load them, so that you don't download the virus. The virus is on Etsy's side but they are denying culpability.
Run a virus scan on your device.
As I said to the previous commenter - that's the first thing that I did - just to be sure. However the way that the Bitdefender extension works is that it flags infected web pages before you load them, so that you don't download the virus. The virus is server side but Etsy are choosing to ignore it.
I started getting that warning as well since today. I'll scan my computer as it was suggested above, I'll see what I find.
Using BitDefender, I scanned my whole system, no viruses were detected. My issue still persisted, whenever I tried to access the shop manager from OperaGX browser, I wouldn't be able to load it in because of the same error message you posted. I then checked if the issue persisted on another browser, I tried it with Google Chrome, and I no longer got that message. I could load in my shop's dashboard. So the issue is somewhere in OperaGX. As of now, I haven't done any steps for further debugging, but I suppose the usual: deleting all saved cookies, history, configurations should make it work, or worst case scenario, reinstalling it.
Have you got BitDefender's extension installed in your other browsers? If not then it won't pick up the virus on Etsy's server.
You can double check that it hasn't downloaded when you used Chrome by scanning your system again - you might have to start up in Safe Mode in order to find any virus and delete it.
@Doricdragons That just happened to me. I just shut off my computer at the tower, waited a few minutes and turned it on again. Everything is fine.
That doesn't work. I turn off my whole system every day.
Please see my previous reply.
EDIT | Solution found | I ended up adding the URL www.etsy.com/your/shops/me/dashboard to the BitDefender Exceptions list from the Protection Tab -> Online Threat Prevention -> Settings -> Manage Exceptions -> Add an Exception. Refreshed the page and it works now in OperaGX, but god only knows the type of info Etsy is collecting in the background...
This happens to me as well, in the exact scenario of BitDefender blocking the dashboard page when I attempt to open it in OperaGX. Has anyone found a workaround this issue? I am trying to migrate from Chrome to Opera and it would suck to keep both browsers just to accommodate Etsy.
I have scanned my PC and the virus is not there. The whole point of BitDefender flagging the page is to prevent the virus downloading to my PC. The virus is on Etsy's servers, they need to delete it. All that putting an exception in BitDefender does is to give permission for the page to load and hence the virus to also download.
Could this be connected to the spam messages somehow? I’m not remotely computer savvy, so I’m genuinely curious.
This virus is on Etsy's servers. I haven't downloaded it to my computer. BitDefender is flagging the dashboard page as being infected and preventing me accessing the web page because the web page has the virus. I haven't had any spam messages so no idea if there's any connection.
This happened to me the other day. I shut off my computer at the tower right away. When I turned it back on everything was fine.
