Hi All,
I have been selling on Etsy for a number of years now and have never had this issue.
I have gone to provide customer orders with tracking details from Australia Post and am being met with an error telling me that the number in invalid and not recognized by UPS. I have noticed that the Shipping Carrier drop down has also changed today but i have been sure to select Australia Post and still getting the same error. obviously the error is due to the number not being valid with an American service.
Does anyone have any insight to this ?
I'm now currently having to message my customer the tracking details and confirmation of postage.
Not fussed on the star seller stuff but would like to see if this happening to anyone else as this is a massive inconvenience.
THANKS
Hello @Alfieandmeco,
When marking an order as complete, we recommend adding the tracking number first prior to choosing the Shipping carrier. This way, you can be sure that the Shipping carrier is correct.
Thank you very much!
Are you using Etsy labels? Make sure the letters are capitals and no spaces.
I don't use Etsy labels (prefer to support my local post office) and what Etsy provides is not suitable for most of my orders. All I do is put the AusPost tracking number in the box when I mark the order complete. I don't message buyers separately. If they are looking for the number, they can find it on their purchases page.
If you are wanting to track something that is 'lost', don't bother with the US mail service. Go straight to AusPost, they can track it. Once I have had a US buyer contact their post office. The response they got was the same as AusPost got when they investigated ... US post do not investigate or track INCOMING tracked post, only outgoing tracked post. Tracking is a joke but necessary if you are sending merch o/seas. AusPost refunded me and I was able to make it right by the customer.
Where are you seeing that message?
I sent one today and marked it as complete on Etsy choosing Australia Post and putting in the tracking number. I've just gone to look at the order details and it is showing "Dispatched with Australia Post" and the tracking activity appears below it.
Edited to add: I was using the shop manager in a web browser, not the Etsy Seller app. If you're using the app and receiving that message I'd suggest trying it in a browser.
Happening in the the web browser.
This is a new one to me today.
Etsy has attempted to force me to use their shipping labels by withholding my funds unless item is marked as complete with a tracking number. Tracking numbers added later do not count!
They have now prevented me from adding tracking numbers ... so they do not have to release my revenue.

You actually have to:
- remove "Australia Post" and select "Other"
- enter tracking number
- type in Australia Post as the other carrier
that is not a useful answer. It seems that the system is trying to recognise an Australia Post tracking number as a UPS number and it is not meeting the requirements.
These are old posts.
However, the carrier you select should be Australia Post, if it puts in UPS, change it back
Yes have been having the same trouble. Has never happened before, seems to be a new glitch?
I got around it by typing the tracking number in, got that error msg, copied it, deleted, then pasted it in. Seemed to work?
I have the same issue today. Another example of ETSY trying to force sellers to use their own labels by denying them the benefits of having our own accounts with AustPost.
I am having the same problem, never had this issue before today. I ended up adding the tracking number and selecting "other" as the shipping company and typed in Australia Post.
