Normally, when I click on adjust thumbnail, I would be able to adjust its position. Now I'm unable to do so. Even though I adjust it and then it shows the correct version. When I click on save changes, the thumbnail is positioned pretty badly. It's happened only on my latest product. Am I doing something wrong now?

This has been happening to me also. I'm not sure what changed but you aren't the only one.
I am also having the same issue
Hello, I am a seller of a few years now here on Etsy. Recently I have been having issues with the Etsy web browser, specifically in google chrome on my iPad. I am not sure if this is the case on PC as I do not have access to one. However, for at least a month now (could be longer), I have not been able to correctly update/edit my listing thumbnails. I believe this happened when we had a recent update to the site. When I go to edit and move around my thumbnails to have my listing photo product centered, it looks fine, until I press. “Done” once I do, and save my listing, the listing photo / thumbnail looks all crooked and messed up, even when I know it wasn’t when I edited it. I know this can’t be user error as the issue recently started happening.
I’d like to report this issue and also ask if there is anything I can do to fix this on my end. Thank you!
I have the same problem! And I re-uploaded my image a few times, but it keeps happening. How do we report a bug?
There are many glitches on the Etsy site. So many threats to sellers but Etsy can change dot colors and critique listings but they can’t fix basic features to make our listings LOOK good. If your thumbnail photo doesn’t adjust you might be FORCED to take a photo that fits the existing thumbnail without adjusting. I have done it. Needing to take a minuscule photo so my item is seen in its entirety . But by golly I better not charge the actual shipping amount because that would be wrong.
I'm having this problem as well. The only fix I can find is to pre-crop the image so that the square thumbnail is perfectly centered and let it auto-crop. If I use the "adjust thumbnail" tool at all it just goes haywire and gives me an unusable weird crop.
It is a lousy edit program. I spent all day today trying to list a bunch of hats. Having the thumbnail correct is key. I had to just keep going back and doing it over until it loaded correctly. Sometimes 3 or 4 times! It shouldn't be that hard to fix ETSY!!!
Adjusting the thumbnail only seems to work sometimes. Lots of the shop editing tools are glitchy.
I allways have to adjust my thumbnail in two steps. The first step never change anything so I allways need to crop also. Very strange. I have Windows 11 and use Chrome too.
It happened for a while, then magically worked for a while. Now it's happened again. Annoying.
I am also having problems
Are your photos centered when you upload them? In other words, do you have the product centered? I have never had a problem with the thumbnails not being centered. But before I upload photos I usually try to center them if they weren't aligned properly when I shot them. Also, the dimensions you are using may effect it. I only use square images now, 2500px x 2500px. And leaving a lot of negative space around the image will also help. I don't think Etsy's thumbnail adjustment is meant to be an editing program. The only time I have made adjustments is if there is too much white space around the image and I want it larger. Good luck!
I'm not 100% sure, but something that worked for me was to wait a couple of seconds before each new step or click. After adjusting the thumbnail, I waited 5 seconds, then clicked 'Done.' I waited another 5 seconds before clicking 'Apply,' and again before publishing the changes. My theory is that our actions require some uploading time, which isn't visually indicated.
I am having the same issue, it's frustrating and it feels like a sign to finally make the jump off of Etsy lol
