I am having such a hard time getting my thumbnail photo to stay in place after I center it. I take photos far enough away that this should happen. It never use to. Anyone else experience this and know how to fix this? Thank you!!!!
What the heck!
I've been skimming over the recent posts about photo issues - because it's been a while since I added a new listing.
Well.
I have no idea what's going on now - everything is new. I guess I'll have to play around and get used to it.
Frustrating. All I want to do is crop a thumbnail - I do all the other editing before I load to Etsy.
Same happening to me -- after they added additional editing features. Signed in out, changed browsers, cleared my cache. Still not working. Frustrating!
It's not working. Etsy has rolled out a new tool or possibly a test that hasn't been thoroughly tested and it's been problematic for many of us.
It starts with not being able to edit/adjust the thumbnail and gets worse from there. Been happening for me since Thursday last week. I badly need to list somethings and there is just no way. No warning this was going to happen. I also tried to go and notify Etsy, but the help page just keeps sending you back to the help page again. It will not cough up an email form to send an email to support. VERY FRUSTRATING and UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!
@TheCalamityHouse I'm in the same position. I just started a new product line that I'm excited about. Unfortunately, because of this issue, I won't list it on Etsy because it's just too time-consuming to do so. At this time we seem to have less control of our listings when we edit them. Thankfully, I have started investing in other sites so I have options now. Hopefully, Etsy gets this straightened out because I'd like to list them here. I love my little Etsy shop.
Here's the link to the email
Hi everyone! So I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to figure this out and I want to share what I found with you. Go to the listing you want to edit. Choose your thumbnail photo. Hover over the small image of the thumbnail and click on the pencil image that appears. You'll see a trash can and a pencil. Click the pencil and it will take you to a new (at least new to me) editing page for your photo. ADJUST lets you edit your photo with all the tools you see at the bottom of the page. But go to the left and click TRANSFORM and here is where it allows you to resize and crop your image so that it will be centered on your shop page image. You may have to do this a couple times to get it where you want it to be. You can go back and forth to keep editing it. However, I have not been able to figure out how to get the photo back to the original incase you want to possibly choose another thumbnail. the way you crop it is the way it will stay in the photos of your listing. I had to go and delete the photo I cropped up and then upload the photo again as the original. I know, a lot to read here. But once you get the hang of it it works. I hope this helps all of you. Let me know!!!
@frenchfeatherdesigns Thank you. Unfortunately, the crop feature won't work for my listings. I'm able to see the transform option, but it won't allow cropping. I'm very happy it's working for you. Maybe they are working on it which would be great!
I did find if I enlarge the photo from 2000px to 2100px in the cropping area, and then adjust the thumbnail right afterward, the thumbnail option works. But, the image reverts immediately to 2000px. Nor can I crop it.
Just wanted to tell you that your solution actually worked for me. THANK YOU!!! Took me a bit to figure out how to crop it then but I got it. Stupid though since the old page was faster and easier to use. My photos are all edited before I get here and I need nothing from this shopping list of stuff on the bottom of the page to make my image look better. I just need the stupid thumbnail to be centered and usually slightly enlarged to fit the space. Thank you again!!!
It' s been very helpful, thanks.
Happening for my shop too. There is nothing I can do, after few attempts to fix it, I'm thinking it will take few minutes to adjust, like everything else when changing.
Has anyone figured this out? I cannot crop photos in the new image processor. I can only adjust them into position and they never stay there. Rather frustrating as I need to list new stuff today!
@DarkWilds, unfortunately, it's still not working for me, and I have not heard from Etsy. But @frenchfeatherdesigns has had some success. She's shared about it further up in this thread.
I've had to do more than one adjustment on my thumbnails which is very time consuming. I agree with you @NancyQstudio. This is very frustrating. @DarkWilds
frenchfeatherdesigns.... you are the one I was thanking. You got me started and I successfully got a lamp of mine listed last night with a good looking thumbnail finally. I also figured out the cropping. After you get your picture in the square go back to TRANSFORM again. It now says something else instead of TRANSFORM and there appears the cropping box around your new image. If you look closely you can see in the lower left corner it is a slightly heavier line. Pull the line up until you are satisfied with you image and go back and push APPLY It takes you back to your editing page for your listing and you will see your new thumbnail in the same spot you used to find it showing you how it will look in the gallery page. Hope that helps. It sure would be nice if ETSY would have told us how to use this new stupid page and I told them that too last night. In my opinion the rest of the crap at the bottom of the page is useless since anyone who has been listing with the old page was editing their images somewhere else before they came to the listing page.
This new feature is useless! Why change what we had before? It worked beautifully !
Chat seems to be unavailable today. I'm just letting my fellow sellers know Etsy is having issues with uploading photos now. This is an issue on Etsy's side.
I keep getting this Etsy message:
"Hm, we're having trouble uploading those files. Try again, and if this keeps happening contact Etsy Support." in a big red bar across my screen.
I'm unable to post a screenshot here.

Etsy has made changes. Thank you, Etsy! The crop function is now working. They have even added a box around it so we can now see what we are cropping. And, the thumbnail adjustment option is working now too.
@NancyQstudio That's great! I haven't put up any new listings yet but looking forward to having this fixed!
I crop and resize images using IrfanView on my laptop before uploading them. If they look good in the thumbnail preview, they look good in my shop. Don't mess with images ON Etsy, do all your "messing" before you upload them. #worksforme
@PrairiePrimitives For most items I agree with this. And on other sites this is what I often do depending on their requirements. But, recropping and resizing artwork on Etsy is another way of protecting artist images since Etsy requires a particular larger sized image. So the cropping feature has become very important on Etsy.
Me too.
This has been going on for months. It is annoying and time consuming! There are way too many things do not work correctly on Etsy or they replace things with new problems for sellers. I wish they would fix any issues in any change they make before they launch something new.
Another issue that is making me go crazy is when I am looking at my listings to see views, favorites, etc., if I click on a listing on page 4, when I click to go back to where I was, it takes me back to page 1. This just started recently and it is the most time consuming process to work on listings when it will not go back to the page where you were. I can’t stand having to constantly scroll to click to the page where I was working on a listing. It gives me horrible headaches with all the scrolling.
Artfire was easy to navigate in the beginning and by the time they closed down, they had made it a mess. I had already quit selling there way before they closed. It was so time consuming to work on your shop with the worst changes! Etsy is doing the same thing.
