Each time we make a new listing and adjust the thumbnail size and position, after published the positioning of the thumbnail doesn't stay. We have to re adjust it...the glitch starts all over again and this is a lot of time wasted. It will take about 5-6 times readjusting for the thumbnail position to stick. This has been happening now for over 6 months in our shop. And yes, we have an updated browser, our internet is high speed. I don't have any other issues on other sites but here which leads us to believe it's an Etsy glitch. Any insight on when this will be corrected? I've submitted a thread in the past with no replies. It truly becomes frustrating to have to continually try to adjust this...sometimes we just give up and list on our other sites, which we don't want to do. We have an inventory of 20,000+ photos to list and this glitch hinders that from happening.
I've been here since the end of 2019, and I don't think it's ever worked for me.
What do you call a glitch that's been happening for over 5 years and not fixed?
This is different. It's always been a pain and you've had to sometimes adjust the photo 2 or 3 times. That's not what this is. This is that you adjust it and it sets the whole image 'off-center'. When you go back into the listing to look at editing the image again, the box looks like it's a different shape until you touch the 'zoom tool', then it changes back to the normal shape. You adjust the image, save and then you enter the endless loop.
Usually, they don't save the way I adjust them, I do them a few times and either they finally save the correct way or I let them be for a while and they correct themselves. These are not doing that.
This is the procedure I use that gets it to stick more times than not on the first try: adjust the thumbnail how you want and click apply, then go back in to adjust and toggle the =/- and hit apply again, and only then publish the listing. That second pass at adjusting the thumbnail before publishing works like 75% of the time for me.
But yes Etsy, it is infuriating how much of a time-waster adjusting thumbnails has been for years.
that used to work for me, but now it's like 5/6 times and waiting for a while (like 30 mins; i tried just waiting though and no luck there).
etsy support are totally useless as usual - told to clear my cache etc etc...it would be great if (like for so many other things on this platform) they could just say "sorry, we're fixing it." it's really becoming not worth it to be on etsy.
Thanks for your reply! I have actually tried this, but unfortunately it isn't working for me! I've tried everything, every combination, short of standing on my head and it's still taking me 20-30 or more times before it will stick. I have also published and gone back in to edit, as someone else has recommended and that doesn't work either. It was already not working well for months/years and required a handful of passes, but something changed in the past week or so, where now it takes dozens of tries. There is a definite noticeable degradation in how it is working now. Everyone is saying they are ignoring us - I'm kind of almost getting to where I wonder if maybe they may not know how to fix it.
It is maddening. How can this issue be ignored year after year? It is such a time waster and more times than not I just give up and have a ridiculously lopsided thumbnail or I select one that is less than ideal. Why can this not be fixed? So many old threads closed with this same issue and NO resolution.
@thatregina hi can we get some sort of acknowledgement on this please? support won't help us, so anything from your end would be a good start!
If it doesn't stick in 1-2 tries, I publish when done and then go back in the edit mode and do it and that generally works. Truly I have just started taking a few photos specifically for photo 1 at a couple different distances, edit them to 4:3 or square and pick the best one. After a bit you get an idea of where you need to be for that 1st photo. End run the tool.
yeah, as i said on the previous page, i'm having to do it multiple (6, 7, 8...) times over an hour or more. it used to be how you described for me. the last couple of weeks, it's unusable. going out my tiny mind!!
starting to wonder if this is a browser specific issue...what you all on (or app?? i'm using chrome...
@TheHopAndPop - I've tried both Chrome and Safari on my laptop and it doesn't work on either of them. I've read where other people have tried a handful of different devices/browsers and had no luck, either!
Not a browser issue, I’ve also cleared my cache several times and that doesn’t work either. Unless I’m missing something, the functionality to adjust the thumbnail is not available in the app.
Just weighing in to say this is still a problem, and as many have said here, has been a problem for a very long time. I held off using the new listing tool for as long as I could because it's more of a problem than ever. Tonight I can't seem to get the adjustments to stick no matter what I do. Sure makes my product look goofy!
Please please please fix this Etsy!
Try this: edit it once, save, leave, and then come back in an hour or so, and it will be saved in the way you wanted it. This has worked for me and saved me so much time. I think it just takes time to update, at least one hour.
It's worse today, I had everything fixed and when I looked at the shop again a couple hours later, the images were all messed up.
Strange, seems like this doesn't work for everybody.
i left one overnight for more than 12 hours and it still didn't adjust, unfortunately.
It's definitely worse the past couple of days. Photos used to take an hour to stick, or if you went back and did it again it might work, but now it's saving them cut off at the bottom no matter what I do. It has always been a bit glitchy, especially since they went to having square AND landscape photos in different places on the site. But very recently it seems to have gotten much worse.
I know it doesn't seem like a huge deal but we have so little control over how we run our own shops on Etsy these days and it's one thing I can do to get my shop to look the way I want. And maybe I'm being ocd about it but I take pride in the way my shop looks, including little details. I already photograph my items so they're centered but sometimes I want to zoom in a bit, or a lot, in order to create a certain look on a shop page. Now I can't even do that.
Still a problem for me too. Support just told me they know about it and maybe try to adjust in smaller incredments. Nothing works. It is 4:30am and i'm going to give up and sleep a bit and try tomorrow after my real job
tanck you
EDIT: Never mind... I left my store looking ok last night and looked back this morning and they're all out of wack again... I give up. I guess I'll just be cropping my images.
So this doesn't work every time but I have a higher success rate at making the thumbnail adjustment stick when I crop the image but only in a really specific way, I'd love to know if this works for anyone else.
Crop your image, just a tiny bit, nothing major - Click "Apply" - Stay on that popup page and "Adjust thumbnail" - Make your adjustments like you usually would - Click "Done" and then "Apply". It seems to work about 75% of the time which is a LOT better than doing it without the cropping.
Etsy... Stop "Innovating" and fix what's actually broken (and has been for a really long time)!
@TheTypographyTipi I discovered about this trick a while ago, but like you said, it works sometimes, but not always. At least, I was able to fix some of the thumbnails.
That worked!! Thank you so much.
it's like some nightmare;
it is not possible to publish photos; Adjust Thumbnail crops photos without any control;
Thumbnail behaviors seem to have gotten even worse, so I chatted with an agent again. They said they've escalated to their technical team and will follow up with me via email. I'll share any info they have.
