Hi

Someone hacked my account 3 days ago and changed my deposit method. They have set up 2 step authentication but i don't receive the codes. I've been able to log in anyway with my phone but I can't turn the 2factor down without accessing the code. I also tried to update the deposit bank info to put back again my bank number, but the system won't let me without knowing the complete hacker's bank number (-__-).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've contacted Etsy support and the responses were not helpful and now they don't answer me anymore. I've seen some people received more help by posting on the forum than contacting Esty Support directly so I try my luck here.

Please help!

I have a flip cell phone but I rarely use it, I can get or make calls but I have no idea how to text on it or get text so I wouldn't want a 2 step code thing to login all the time.

I get phishing emails from Citibank (don't have and never had an account with them), FedEx, DHL and others wanting me to verify my account.
Or some scammer wanting me to send them a list of available items and prices, another scam.

I never ever click on any of them.
I always hover my mouse over the sender name and 100% of the time the email is NOT from any of those companies.

I can read 6-8 words of the email without opening it and I can tell it's not legit.

When browsing the internet, I have Mcafee virus/malware/etc and it lets me know a site is safe before ever clicking on it.
It has a green check mark besides the site in search and if it has a red or yellow check, then I won't click on it.

Just as an aside, I have been receiving an increased number of phishing emails purporting to be from various banks (none of which I actually have an account with) alerting me to suspicious activity, for which the bank has "locked" my account until I respond to verify my account information.

I suppose the scammers send out enough of these disguised as multiple banks and they eventually get lucky and hit someone who does have that bank as their account holder and they unknowingly click in to update their info.

Needless to say, always assume any unexpected communication like those should start with your contacting the institution first to find out whether the email was valid.

So do I--and while I do have an account I never even bother to open thos--I just hit delete.

anything PP has to say to you is ALSO posted in your account--so why would they send an email. Usually the only time is if they change ther terms of service

LOL  I always wondered what happened if you pressed 1.  I was sure they would ask for that exact type info!   I can see on the Medicare scams the first thing they might ask is your Medicare #. If they are calling you from "Medicare" they should have your # right there in front of them.

So a few years ago , my email was hacked,  they hacked me through a skype call early morning I was groggy had no idea what was going on but i was on the line long enough for them to get into my skype account then some how they hacked my Email with go daddy and got into my Etsy and made some purchase s, that they wanted to send to Egypt, using my card on file.  they didnt have access to my bank account they never got to that but the SOB did call me back a few hours later telling me he was holding my .com for ransom.   I was able to prove to Etsy I got hacked, but they did treat me like I was the criminal  not a pleasant experience.  After that I have a different password for all my sensitive accounts

I think this is one thing a lot of people make the mistake of doing, having the same exact password and/or user name for ALL online accounts.
Or having a password like 12345 or password for the password or something simple that a hacker could guess.

I have different user names and passwords for every site I have to sign into.
I have LONG passwords consisting of upper/lower case letters, numbers and symbols. My passwords don't spell anything.
I also keep all the info in a small notebook.
