Wow, I was just chatting about the glow of agates in another thread here.
I love how much amber smells like the pine trees. Jade gets a bit soapy and it smells like the mountains.....

Thank you so much for informing me about that machine, I had no idea what it was. I cant wait to set it up and try it out. I can definitely picture myself ruining a few stones until I figure out to go slow :) Its my lot in life.

Paul Meyer from GenesisGems says

Terri,

OK!, I'm not crazy!

I had some gem silica and chrysocolla in matrix that used to smell like grapes!

Actual grapes or grape jelly?

OK , i going to simply cut and paste this for comments and we can revive this older thread.

here is a weird piece of Luguna agate, the 1st pic show a hint of the optical effect but it really is not possible to catch the golden glow the stone shoots off in a moonstone like flash. i see Luguna rough for sale on ebay often.. a real bargain usually

Is this what was called Iris Agate occasionally?
common?
Paul?

Where do you think that's from jerry....the citrine? The back side, matrix looks soft and crumbly.

Hi Mickey, Actually it looks very solid to me? Anja?

Most Citrine is from Brazil, it is very common but also most citrine is actually amethyst heat treated, something few know.

If you have a unwanted piece of amethyst take a match or torch to it.. it will turn to citrine if you heat it enough. also a good thing to know if you are sizing a customers nice amethyst ring :-) after you turn it to citrine the fun starts...lol.

if the white is solid and sparkly, its quartz most likely, try scratching it with another piece of quartz?

I'm betting its from brazil, some of the amethyst was from there too and i believe they came from the same seller. It looks pretty solid and sparkly, and i don't have a piece of quartz that's pointy lol
that's pretty cool about the amethyst!

I don't know if this is the right thread - but I have a lapidary question. I got all the necessary chemicals to stablize some slabs. My question is what to expect out of it...... will they take a better polish or just not crumble apart when cutting and polishing? I have some flowering onyx that I thought might be a good candidate.
