From a local NBC television web site:

"A Kenosha business owner is accusing President Donald Trump of using his destroyed store for political gain.

Tom Gram’s century-old camera shop burned to the ground a week ago during the unrest in Uptown Kenosha. Gram said he declined President Trump’s request to be a part of his tour of damage Tuesday in Kenosha. Instead, a former owner of the shop was invited and he praised the president’s efforts.

Gram has owned Rode’s Camera Shop since he bought the business from the Rode family eight years ago."...........

Trump's influence on the world is rather disturbing. When the anti-maskers held a protest in Germany some supporters of the 'movement' on tv citing Qanon. Guess even conspiracy theories need to broaden their base? The troubling part is, how long after Trump is gone will it take for the US & its influence, to abate so everyone can return to a saner view of the world in general?

Am I the only one feeling like liberal democracy/pluralism is now (only recently) under attack from both extremes?   There is stuff bothering me. I feel like Trump has not only infected the right but now he's pushed (punch-counter-punch aka basic troll tactics) the left into a toxic corner.  Leaving this as an example https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/09/there-no-defense-looting/615925/

I sincerely want to be wrong.

I'll do a cut and paste if behind a paywall. I'm just not on board with extreme toxic binary arguments, none and I'm seeing more and more "with us entirely or you are an enemy" arguments from people I otherwise would mostly or somewhat agree with. I am an old-fashioned lefty, social democracy & free speech--this is making me feel OLD.

@kaslkaos

Well, that article was an interesting read!

I get what you are saying. Only this afternoon, on Facebook of course, I witnessed an eminently sensible woman being verbally pummeled into the ground for suggesting that there might have been two sides to a particular story.

Everybody seems to be so bloody angry with everybody else these days. It is closing their ears.

To me, I see right wing thinking as almost evangelistic. I have yet to witness (in my limited exposure as a Canadian) any criticism of the current president or his cohorts. It is always deflected, excused and touted as fake news. There seems to only be half the US that is represented by the republican party. They already call democrats anti-american. The division has been much discussed, but I am very worried for the US ... leading up to the election there is nothing but bashing and after the election and IMO no matter which way it goes ... the division will be worse or the results about the election will get ugly.

@bluetina thank you. I keep looking for reasonable people, I have been so silenced. I realized it's not political (vs a human behaviour) when I see it in so many venues far from the whiff of politics.

From NBC News:

"President Donald Trump suggested that people in North Carolina should vote twice in the November election, once by mail and once in person, escalating his attempts to cast confusion and doubt on the validity of the results.

"So let them send it in and let them go vote, and if their system's as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated, they'll be able to vote," Trump said when asked whether he has confidence in the mail-in system in North Carolina, a battleground state.

"If it's as good as they say it is, then obviously they won't be able to vote. If it isn't tabulated, they'll be able to vote. So that's the way it is. And that's what they should do," he said.

It is illegal to vote more than once in an election."........

@kaslkaos  @bohemians  @bluetina  -  I sort of pride myself on being a registered NPA even though that means I can't vote in any primaries in Florida. Have voted for Republicans & Democrats based on their past actions as well as their stated goals. Believe my biggest issue with Trump is that from day one he never seemed to take being POTUS seriously. His continuous attacks on everything from the media, our allies to the childish name calling and outright lies (& more). That the GOP seems to condone his nonsense by not calling him out has turned me into a Democrat I guess. His handling of the coronavirus is more icing on the cake for me. While the economy is important I find it amazing that he doesn't understand that without health, there will be no wealth, monetary or 'spiritual'. While he may tout the stock market & all the money people are making he fails to realize that retired folks like myself & hubby would like to be able to spend some of our "extra funds" in more places then buying an extra thick t-bone at the grocery store or purchasing essentials or "project completion stuff" on Amazon. The pandemic should never have been made into a political issue but it's been done & it's a shameful thing.

But yes, to find people who are neutral & willing to listen to both sides of a story is quite difficult now. Though imo Trump keeps trying to divide the Country no matter what the topic might be and yes, it's rather unsettling wondering what could/will happen if the election does not go his way.

From AP News - the story on VP Biden's trip to Kenosha & where he went & who he spoke with. The last paragraph jumped out at me - bold my addition:

"Trump is scheduled to hold a campaign rally Thursday evening in Pennsylvania, another key Rust Belt battleground. His campaign manager, Bill Stepien, said Biden’s visit to Kenosha was inappropriate, arguing Trump went because he is president and that Biden is only “injecting politics into a really serious situation that the president helped solve.”"

Okay then.........

Report from 8 Hours ago:

"Law enforcement officers fatally shot a man Thursday suspected of killing a backer of a right-wing group, in Portland, Oregon, after a caravan of supporters of President Donald Trump rolled into the city last weekend, authorities say.

Michael Forest Reinoehl, 48, was killed in Oylmpia, Washington, near Lacey as a federal task force tried to arrest him Thursday night, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service said.

The Marshals Service said police in Portland has issued a warrant for Reinoehl's arrest earlier Thursday on a murder charge. Aaron "Jay" danielson, 39, was fatally shot in the chest Saturday just after a pro-Trump caravan of vehicles faced off with counterprotesters in Portland."...

Trump Tweet from 10 Hours ago:

"Why aren’t the Portland Police ARRESTING the cold blooded killer of Aaron “Jay” Danielson. Do your job, and do it fast. Everybody knows who this thug is. No wonder Portland is going to hell!"

Okay, never mind that Portland Police HAD issued a warrant for his arrest earlier in the day, but you know, there's that "the suspect in another State thing" and assume thru the chain of command the Federal Agents were tasked with going to Washington State & making the arrest. Don't you wish he was this 'demanding' with Russia, to stay out of our elections, the offering of bounties on US troops or their more recent "oops we didn't mean to" troop harassment(s) overseas?

Trump & his cultist followers are the only ones who think Portland is going to "hell".

The fire chief himself tweeted to a well known journalist he is friends' with & said that Portland was not on fire, and the fire they attended only required 1 truck.

Colleague said that friend of her's moved to Portland at the end of August & reported that things in Portland were nothing like what Trump & his idiots portray it as.

Woman who was hit in the chest by a paintball during violent clashes in Portland last month has launched a $250,000 lawsuit against the man she accuses of shooting her.

She is suing him for $250,000

Swinney, a self-described Trump supporter, was photographed by The Oregonian pointing the paintball gun at a crowd of protesters and repeatedly firing.

That's the thing about "anonymous" sources.  They are still known to the publisher, they just wish to remain anonymous - at least with reputable publications.  Multiple sources verifying the Atlantic story.

I just wish more people would come out and say it themselves.

Listening to Rush Limb. yesterday, he said Trump must be innocent, because John Bolton would have had this in his book if his comments were true!

Bolton, who published a book earlier this year that was heavily critical of his former boss, said the alleged remarks sounded accurate.

“I have not heard anybody say, ‘Oh, that doesn’t sound like the Donald Trump I know,’” Bolton said in the interview.

..."Did he say those things to other people later in the day? It’s certainly possible.”

CNN one of the members of the media saying they have the book in hand now. The Book will add to interesting or maybe some crazy news this week.

Wonder if anyone has started a "comparison chart", taking all the books about Trump to see what the "Top Five" things are that they all agree on/confirm?

@kaslkaos  - I know, each day presents new opportunities.  BTW - Rachel Maddow is having Michael Cohen do a phone interview on Tuesday.

Today's craziness is more of the usual from Trump's press conference, with highlights that include berating a reporter for wearing a mask, and saying he was responsible for giving John McCain the funeral he deserved.

The latest on vaccines - the Drug Makers banding together and will be issuing a statement advising they will only release/request approval for vaccinations that are thoroughly tested. Data will be available. Supposedly the doctors & scientists at the various US Health Agencies will be doing the same sort of press release.
What Trump has done - turned the public into skeptics, wary of what could be a life saver - all for what he perceives to be a political edge.

"As we peer into society's future, we – you and I, and our government – must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for our own ease and convenience the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.

Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense. We have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security alone more than the net income of all United States corporations.

Now this conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence—economic, political, even spiritual—is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet, we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources, and livelihood are all involved. So is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."

All I had to do was google Pres. Eisenhower's speech - heck, this is from Wikipedia. While "everyone" is out there tweeting in Trump's defense, do not believe that Ike blurted out "the rank and file love me, it's the Generals that don't, and by the way I really don't care".
And Trump continues to brag about how much money he has given the military apparently forgetting that it's the money available to spend that can lead to the "industrial complex" having too much influence.
Finally, while not sure what happened in having different text in this cut and paste, but the addition of bold in the first paragraph is mine.

Well after a busy and physical day yesterday slept in (oh the cats unhappy) enjoyed a late breakfast & browsing the latest news. At first the article on Barr/DOJ taking over Trump's defense in the defamation suit jumped out. Trump's comments on Sen. Harris, that should she become President it would be an "insult" to the American people also caught my attention. Oh, what exactly does a POTUS do(?) - Trump sent at least 50 tweets by 11 am or so. Then of course there's the latest Florida news I needed to catch up on, which include the State adding 200 people to the coronavirus death toll or that Florida ranks second in the number of confirmed cases in children. Then the release of Bob Woodward's book jumped into the mix. Between some of Trump's own (taped) statements on the virus & comments made by various 'higher-ups' in his Admin., oh the week is, as they say, only getting started.

"I wanted to always play it down,” Trump told veteran journalist Bob Woodward in mid-March, CNN reported. “I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”

Okay, once the US went into its lock-down-mode, I think that excuse flew out the window. Instead of using Science & encouraging Americans with a "we can do this" attitude he continued - actually Still Continues - to act like an oaf.

Trump's tweets this morning:

"Fake News is at it again! They will take any statement from me, no matter how proper or well delivered, & systematically, in complete conjunction with all of their allies, dismantle it. With Biden, they only give him softballs, and let him read the answers from a teleprompter!"
Oh but I bet his interview with Hannity last night was soooooooo difficult. Hah.

"New York City indoor dining to reopen on September 30, at 25% capacity. A step in the right direction, but should go faster!"
Well since there has NEVER been any type of National Plan on reopening the Country, and a State's or City's use of their past experiences with the coronavirus, well how can they be criticized for doing things at their own pace, doing what they feel is right?

"No, Vindman knew the call itself to the Ukrainian President was “perfect”, but also knew the whistleblower report described the call incorrectly, way off. Why didn’t Vindman say so? That’s why Shifty didn’t want the whistleblower to testify. A big scam!"
What does this tweet say? After all Trump again referencing a point in time that in the end lead to His IMPEACHMENT. Though there is a new whistleblower complaint so maybe this is the start of attacking it?

Will end by saying that it appears Trump is on another "twitter tear" this morning. Looking at time lines one wonders if he even went to bed last night. Now it seems he's in over-drive & ready to go full throttle.
