it would be interesting to see Trump's current tax returns to see if he benifits from this. I bet he does. it was pretty predictable that if Trump imposed tarrifs the market would tank. i wonder if there was a sell off before hand by any of his family or associates.

Don't higher prices for goods also mean paying a higher sales tax? So we, as Americans, won't just be paying the extra whatever percent they'll tack onto the price of an item, but the extra sales tax, too? Here in L.A. it's 9.5% sales tax--- not as high as some places, but high enough.

Hmmmmmmm......

Not only are GOP Senators in farming States backing Trump's tariffs, but one of today's headlines is that Graham has told Trump Jr. to ignore the subpeona he's been handed by the Senate. In other words, break the law. But hey, if you live in New England & are a Red Sox fan, why aren't you glad Trump is POTUS, and nothing else should really matter, right(?)

"You just show up and plead the Fifth and it's over with," Graham told reporters, referring to the amendment that protects citizens from self-incrimination.

Terrible that a politician openly tells someone to break the law. What would Senator McCain have said about Lindsay's comment?

Someone pleading the 5th would essentially be admitting that they have committed a criminal act, they just won't admit it in court.

It wouldn't be over with. If the judge finds you in contempt, off to jail you may go.  In jrdumb's case it may just the therapy he needs.  A couple of minutes in county lockup will do the trick.

From trump  2016

“Now the people who destroyed the emails are all pleading the Fifth Amendment in front of Congress today,”  “Have you seen that is going on before Congress? Fifth Amendment, Fifth Amendment, Fifth Amendment — horrible, horrible.”

“The mob takes the Fifth Amendment. If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?” Good question trump????

But we all know that their is a double standard for trump & his "soldiers".

trump's lawyers during his 2nd divorce trial.

The irony was that everyone in the divorce action was represented by skillful criminal attorneys, and the one chosen by Donald had substantial mob clienteles, including Marla’s lawyer, Jerry Shargel, who was one of John Gotti’s attorneys ... It was a measure of the mud war both parties expected, and predictably, waged.

Donald Trump Jr. had agreed on several occassions to come back to follow up on some potential  discrepancies. Donald Trump publicly told us all that he would release his tax returns. Seems to be a pattern with this family. Remember how many times Jared had to fill out the application for his security clearance? Ivanka abruptly shuts down her fashion business. It is amazing how many times this family gets a pass by the republicans. The forums got really quiet when trump sided with Putin in Helsinki. All forgotten though.

If I've counted correctly Trump sent out 13 Tweets from @7 this morning until about 1 or so this afternoon. When does he find time to be involved in his "job", you know...being POTUS?

But when he has the entire GOP quaking in its boots, I guess just like Helsinki, he'll get a pass on anything & everything, even when its too late to change direction for the sake of the Country or even the World.

The word "fake" is putin's secret activation code word for the microchip that was implanted into trump's head when he was in Russia for the Miss Universe pageant.

"trump's use of the word 'fake " for everything is causing putin great stress. It appears the microchip has started to malfunction & putin is upset with his hacking department," according to a source who is familiar with the situation.

If the microchips continue to malfuntion, trump & his cronies will have to be recalled. A date for a sideline meeting has not been set at this time. The particulars of when & where this rendevous will take place will be disclosed at a future time. WH aides are said to be trying to work out a schedule that works for both trump, & putin.

Just another conspiracy theory for you AG barr. Rather than looking for scapegoats at trump's behest, your time would be better spent reflecting on how you have allowed your ethics to slip to such low levels.

The United States has publicly rebuked a senior British general who challenged claims that Iranian-backed groups are preparing to mount attacks against Western assets in the Middle East.

The extraordinary move came after Major General Chris Ghika, the deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led coalition against Islamic State, said that there was no increased threat from pro-Iranian groups in Iraq and Syria.

In recent days Donald Trump's administration has said that Iran is preparing its allied and proxy forces to mount attacks on US assets across the Middle East, and has sent an aircraft carrier strike group...

But when reporters in the Pentagon asked Maj Gen Ghika about the claims on Tuesday, he said: "No, there's been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria."

Speaking by video-link from Baghdad, he said: "We're aware of their presence, clearly, and we monitor them, along with a whole range of others because that's the environment we're in."

He added: "I am not going to go into the detail of it, but there are a substantial number of militia groups in Iraq and Syria and we don't see an increased threat from many of them at this stage."

trump, bolton & the other US war mongers have decided that this is the excuse that this administration will use to attack Iran;

Jeremy Hunt, the Foreign Secretary, this week said he was worried the US and Iran were stumbling towards armed conflict.

Donald Trump denied the reports that plans have been drawn up to send up to 100,000 troops to counter Iran if necessary, but added: "Would I do that? Absolutely."

From US Ministry of Defence - His comments are based on the day to day military operations and his sole focus is the enduring defeat of Daesh. Which is not true because Maj Gen Ghika said, "there are a substantial number of militia groups in Iraq and Syria and we don't see an increased threat from many of them at this stage."

I support Maj Gen Ghik's assessment as he is an experienced military officer, who is living in Bagdad. Don't trust trump, bolton & the other conspiracy theorists. I rate their story as half baked.

Another trump excuse for the US to attack Iran over access to the oil.

Very similar to Operation Desert Storm - August 1990, Saddam Hussein, the dictator of Iraq, ordered his army across the border into tiny Kuwait.  Iraq's army was well equipped. The US had provided massive military aid to Iraq during their 8 year war with Iran, giving them the 4th largest army in the world. Yes Hussein was helped into power by the US.

Kuwait was a major supplier of oil to the United States. The Iraqi takeover posed an immediate threat to neighboring Saudi Arabia, another major exporter of oil. If Saudi Arabia fell to Saddam, Iraq would control 1/5th of the world's oil supply.

Iraq did not leave Kuwait untouched. Millions of dollars of valuables were plundered by the occupying troops. As Iraq retreated, they detonated explosives at many of Kuwait's oil wells.

At the end of the Operation, President Bush promptly declared that the "new world order had begun."

It is amazing how history repeats itself, over & over again with every new excuse for the lust for oil.

On the same day that the USA declines to sign the Anti-Terrorism Pact (regarding social media) the White House sets up a Question Page, asking people if they've ever been "the victim" of bias on Social Media, of course tied to their 'conservative values'. Is this an OMG moment, or what(?)

The White House felt the document could present constitutional concerns, officials there said, potentially conflicting with the First Amendment, even though Trump previously has threatened to regulate social media out of concern that it’s biased against conservatives. There is possibly an executive order in the works. Someone leaked a draft two page executive order.

"conservative values" took on negative connotations and are no longer traditional values.

I just read this poll which really showed the differences between the US political parties

Public opinion survey by the Public Religion Research Institute:

Does increased racial diversity have a positive or negative impact on America?

ALL AMERICANS  • 64% positive • 31% negative

Partisan Divides

DEMOCRATS  85% positive   13% negative

REPUBLICANS 43% positive    50% negative

More than 8 in 10 (85%) Democrats and nearly 6 in 10 (59%) independents believe a majority of the country being nonwhite will have a positive effect. Half (50%) of Republicans say these demographic changes will have a largely negative impact on American society, while 43% say these changes will be positive.

Religious groups - White evangelical Protestants are unique in the extent to which they feel demographic change will represent a negative development for the U.S. More than 1/2 (52%) of white evangelical Protestants say a majority of the U.S. population being nonwhite will be a negative development.

So much for following Christ's example of impartiality to all nations. Their agenda seems to be very closely aligned with trump's.

Better getting used to diversity, because census projections say by 2043. ethnic minorities together will make up the majority of the US population.

The public expresses negative views of President Trump overall. 6 in 10 (60%) Americans have an unfavorable opinion of the president, including 41% who view him very unfavorably.

8 in 10 (80%) Republicans have a favorable view of Trump

More than 9 in 10 (92%) Democrats view the president unfavorably, and an astonishing 75% report a very unfavorable view.

Independents closely track the views of the public overall, which is 60% disapproval

More than 3/4 (77%) of white evangelical Protestants express a favorable opinion of Trump.

By roughly a 2 - 1 margin, Americans say they would prefer if presidential elections were decided by the national popular vote as opposed to the Electoral College. Nearly 2/3 (65%) of Americans believe that presidential elections should be decided based on the national popular vote, while about 1/3 (32%) believe they should be decided through the Electoral College.

Roughly 2/3 of Ohio (66%), Michigan (66%), and Wisconsin (67%) residents say they prefer the popular vote over the Electoral College. Nearly 7 in 10(69%) Minnesota residents and close to 3/4 (73%) of Illinois residents also express a preference for the popular vote.

In both Michigan and Illinois, nonwhite residents are more likely than white residents to report having issues when attempting to vote

Re: Post Everything Here

A thread from twitter (posted on her blog) that is worth a read. The 'men' legislating the control of womens bodies, YES that is what they are doing, need to read it but too much reality for them. I tried to post the full thing but apparently there are bad words lol.

"I’m a mother of six, and a Mormon. I have a good understanding of arguments surrounding abortion, religious and otherwise. I’ve been listening to men grandstand about women’s reproductive rights, and I’m convinced men actually have zero interest in stopping abortion. Here’s why…

If you want to stop abortion, you need to prevent unwanted pregnancies. And men are 100% responsible for unwanted pregnancies. No for real, they are. Perhaps you are thinking: IT TAKES TWO! And yes, it does take two for _intentional_ pregnancies.

But ALL unwanted pregnancies are caused by the irresponsible ejaculations of men. Period. Don’t believe me? Let me walk you through it. Let’s start with this: women can only get pregnant about 2 days each month. And that’s for a limited number of years.

That makes 24 days a year a women might get pregnant. But men can _cause_ pregnancy 365 days a year. In fact, if you’re a man who ejaculates multiple times a day, you could cause multiple pregnancies daily. In theory a man could cause 1000+ unwanted pregnancies in just one year.

And though their sperm gets crappier as they age, men can cause unwanted pregnancies from puberty till death. So just starting with basic biology + the calendar it’s easy to see men are the issue here.

But what about birth control? If a woman doesn’t want to risk an unwanted pregnancy, why wouldn’t she just use birth control? If a women can manage to figure out how to get an abortion, surely she can get birth control, right? Great questions.

Modern birth control is possibly the greatest invention of the last century, and I am very grateful for it. It’s also brutal. The side effects for many women are ridiculously harmful. So ridiculous, that when an oral contraception for men was created, it wasn’t approved…

… because of the side effects. And the list of side effects was about 1/3 as long as the known side effects for women’s oral contraception.

There’s a lot to be unpacked just in that story, but I’ll simply point out (in case you didn’t know) that as a society, we really don’t mind if women suffer, physically or mentally, as long as it makes things easier for men...."

https://www.designmom.com/twitter-thread-abortion/

There is more on the blog.

...........

Have to add, do pundits etc not think to ask the ones legislating the control of women under the guise of 'all life is sacred" why they also legislate making birth control options harder to get, fail at comprehensive sex education and don't ensure parental leave, universal healthcare, affordable childcare and a living wage that might actually help. How they can state all life is sacred and NOT want common sense gun laws to keep those babies alive past grade two. Pro-birth, anti-women seems more accurate since some don't seem to care about the quality of lives past that point. Hypocrisy.

I've also read that they do not plan to legislate frozen embryos, even though it's the same mass of cells you'd find in a pregnant woman's uterus.  Apparently lots of frozen embryos are distroyed each year, but because they haven't been implanted into a woman, the pro-birth party contingent think that they don't count. So, it really isn't about the embryo, it's just about controlling women and making sure they are held accountable for having sex.

I remember when some trump supporters mocked people in the forums for posting their plan was to go after Roe vs Wade, claimed people were overreacting. Same when kavbro was being asked. Just maybe some are more aware of reality of what trump is all about than others, or more accurately willing to use for votes. I still don't believe he cares one way or another about abortion and likely paid for some in his life, being the pig he is. Not just my opinion, he was proud of it. So gross.

Supporters of Alabama’s extreme abortion law weren’t just confused about what exactly it does—they were proud of their cluelessness.

He was likewise stumped when questioned about how doctors would be able to tell a miscarriage from a medication abortion, since the two would present indistinguishably to a doctor.

"The burden of proof would be on the prosecution,” he shrugged—implying, as if he’d just considered it for the first time, that all women who miscarry in an Alabama with an abortion ban should be investigated as criminal suspects.

Though a female representative in the state House had introduced the bill to that chamber, every senator who voted for the bill was a white man.  All but 1 senator who voted against the bill were not white.

Some of the stupid comments from the repub reps over the years.  Compiled statements made in the late 20th or 21st century:

To Texas R Jodie Laubenberg thought rape kits were like abortions—“in the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out.” The woman had five months to make that decision, at this point we are looking at a baby that is very far along in its development."

Republican Virginia State Delegate Bob Marshall"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically," he reportedly said. "Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children."

Back in 1995, then-North Carolina state Representative Henry Aldridge said that “the facts show that people who are raped—who are truly raped—the juices don’t flow, the body functions don’t work, and they don’t get pregnant…. Medical authorities agree that this is a rarity, if ever.”born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord," he added. "There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."

By the way I am Pro -life. What I don't like is these ones making decisions about women's reproductive rights have never been "barefoot & pregnant."

According to the repubs philosophy, ignorance does not bother them as much as the idea of women running around with rights and stuff.

Once again trump supporters are wrong about the repubs wanting to control a woman's body. Imagine belonging to a party that is still living in the 1950's where the woman's identity is tied to her staying at home & supplying her husband's every needs. Where the "little woman's" job is to rear the children, cook & clean while still looking like a fashion model when her husband comes home.

It is now 2019, women are working because they so choose to or because of economic reasons. Not all of us can live "high off the hog" on donations supposedly to be used by charities or by evading the paying of taxes.

To the ROWM in Washington DC, I would like to suggest a surgical procedure that would solve  your collective problem, cervicoplasty

Every time I see these men. I get an Ally McBeal flashback.

According to the Palm Beach Daily News, the president's two adult sons, Eric and Don Jr., bought the house last year for $18.5 million from one of the president's older sisters.

The $18.5 million West Palm Beach mansion was purchased in May 2018 from one of Trump’s older sisters and was secured with an $11.2 million mortgage that has a 4.5% interest rate, Florida public records show.

Trump disclosed the loan as a liability in financial disclosure forms filed this week.

A real estate website lists the eight-bedroom house, which is near the Mar-a-Lago beachfront estate and private club in Palm Beach, as available for rent for about $81,000 a month.

As a Florida resident I cannot believe they are not making this public. They don't need to make public how they found out & all the other investigation techniques. But let the public know - or should every single Florida resident be checking their personal voter registration?
