A few Pattern questions

Jump to solution

Hello all,

I currently have a Squarespace website, and I'm considering moving it either to Shopify or to Pattern. I'm thinking Pattern may make my life easier in the long run, but have a couple questions. I apologize if these questions have been answered already, I tried to do a search but couldn't find what I was looking for.

If you have a listing on both Etsy and Pattern with multiple quantity available, and you sell an item through Pattern, does that make the Etsy listing renew?

Can you change the prices on your Pattern site if the listings are on both?

For sales through Pattern, does Etsy handle all of the sales tax like they do through the Etsy site, or do you have to handle that yourself?

Can you connect your Pattern site to Facebook and Instagram shops?

Thank you!

Melissa

Etsy collects the money for sales on your behalf for both Pattern and Etsy, so Etsy is responsible for paying the taxes. The sales work exactly the same as they do on Etsy with the exception of the fees being slightly lower, you pay for only the processing fee on Pattern, you are not charged the additional transaction fee. The relisting fee stays the same.

Pattern essentially takes your Etsy inventory, transfers it, and rebrands it on your website. Your items will appear on the Etsy website as well as your own Pattern website. You have the option to sell items on your Etsy page only, your Pattern site only, or both simultaneously at the same price as a default. When you list your item it is charged as one item for both shops, not twice for one item. When your listing renews, it renews on both for one price. There is no relisting fee for Pattern only items. If you wanted to charge different pricing for your Pattern website, you could copy the listing, make one Etsy only and the other Pattern only. There is a check box on the top of each listing that designates where you want the item to appear, either Etsy or Pattern. A tiny E, P, or both will appear on the photo preview of your listing indicating where you have it listed. I hope this makes sense.

As far as connecting your Pattern site to Instagram and Facebook shops, I have not been able to, only the Etsy shop.

The downside of having your website on Pattern instead of Shopify or Squarespace is the indexing of your shop in Google search does not show up. The prominent search will be the Etsy shop url, not your personal domain or Pattern website, meaning people who search your items or shop name will be given your Etsy shop as a priority for your items over your Pattern website. The only way to drive people directly to your website is through social media or direct links.

I'll try to answer...If a listing is on both sites, it renews on both sites. I don't think you can set separate prices on the same listing but you could copy listings and only show the copy on Pattern with different prices. You have the option to list an item on both sites, Etsy shop and Pattern shop or only Etsy and only on Pattern. Pretty sure Etsy handles all the sales taxes on both sites as checkout is through Etsy. Connecting Pattern, yes, because the Pattern site is on it's own domain name, so yes, you can connect, as far as I know.

I didn't even think about doing a copy and having that on Pattern only, that's brilliant. So then if that sold, it wouldn't affect my Etsy listing at all, there wouldn't be the listing fee, or the transaction fee, just the payment processing fees if the item sold through Pattern. I think that would work for me! Thank you!!
