Last week, I had to remove all of the hamper listings in my shop because the company decided to discontinue them without notice..I had sold 3, and didn't want to lose the sales..I searched the internet and drove all over NJ, but couldn't find any stragglers,. One customer accepted a sb, that most me $40 to ship as it was oversized, one cancelled, and I had to drive an hour each way and paint one at the customers house, while she watched me!! I hated losing the item, it was such a great one for me...

Hey Leslie! What a bummer about your hamper being discontinued. I'm sure if there was one out there, you'd find it. Maybe you can start up a new product? Trying to think....nuttin'.

Yes, I am doing better and better every day. I have weaned myself off of the neck brace except for when I am on the computer, either home or at work. I'll probably start not using it at home soon, then neck brace be gone! I'm sleeping better, swung right back into my natural sleep pattern, I was kind of worried about screwing that up sleeping on the sofa and watching TV half the night for the first 6 weeks of recovery...but no problem, back to normal, yay!

I got a sale too, in my Works shop, the first one since April!!! I sold a mug cozy...now I have to remember what I do to pack it up and get out to the post office (I have to go out and vote anyway today). Maybe starting to put my digital listings in my Works shop is working. They are all registering as new, so it looks like things are hopping to a search engine.

I was bugged tho, by how sloppy everything was looking, so I did a Rearrange Shop. I want all my crocheted items to be what people see at first. People seeking out my under $5 digi-sheets will find them in the categories. ;) I had to look up on Etsy Help to figure out how to Rearrange my shop, it's been awhile! ;)

I have a bite on a 3 piece wedding order that will hopefully be coming in today, SWEEEEEET!

Leslie, bummer on the hamper and orders. You've got me thinking about the growth charts again... duck cloth strips with embroidered animals and a ruler down the side... with a scroll bar at top and bottom. Still thinking. It is a lot of work.

Sandy, that always worries me... that I don't allow enough time to make the item and get it out.

I got a call on Monday - had a job interview today. (Yay! Silently screaming with excitement inside.) I did well. I tried not to get to hyper in the interview. I tried my best, and that's all I can do. I am hopeful. They had interviews all day. I was at 11:30. No news yet.
NTO: New Teacher Orientation is Friday of this week and school starts on Wednesday, so they have to hop to it quickly. I think I will know by tomorrow, either way.

In the meantime, I applied for another job with a personal letter to a contact at a district and sent an email to a principal friend.

Okay... I have a question.
I live in a very expensive area. (It's all I know, as I grew up here when it was much cheaper to live here... before Silicon Valley became Silicon Valley.)

Minimum wage in my county is $13.50.
In-and-out Burger pays $16 an hour to New-Hires. ($128/8 hours).
A substitute teacher gets $18/hour ... that is $135/day ... 7.5 hours.

I have a 4-year college degree, a teaching credential year, and 99 units beyond my Bachelor's Degree. (2 majors, 1 minor, and 2 CTE Certificates). How is it that a substitute teacher still only makes 11% more than a high school student with an after school job? IOW: someone flipping burgers or chopping potato french fries. And teaching is so much more responsibility - with no benefits.

I am so confused.

Okay... maybe I start my own shop and have vendors sell their items from my shop. Rent here is about $5000 a month for a small shop - with a contract for 5 years. So, it would be an expensive venture... 5 years. Ouch.
But, renting out space and taking maybe 20% of their sale price? I rented a space in a shop about 16 years ago in a little shop by the ocean. I paid $100 a month and 10% to start. New owners made it $120/mo and 15%... or 20%. Okay... sitting here playing with numbers again. Just playing... throwing things out there.

FYI:
a Studio Apt. in my county costs $2000 minimum rent for about 400 square feet. Yes... Two Thousand Dollars a month.
That will put the minimum wage into perspective.

Wow Juls that is crazy. We don't start school until after Labor Day. Apparently they have been having tons of interviews for TAs. They never get hired as teachers in our school and always leave.

I have applied to four more job postings. One is a job share (45 minutes away). Another is a Charter School (35-50 minutes away). Another is about 50 minutes away... 1 hr and 15 minutes if there s traffic. Another, I will need to get "official" training in the Montessori method (closer to home). I am willing to do it all - training, the drive, the share, the Charter School. Each of them sound amazing. I have been online researching those I did not know about - their schools and their vision. School starts on the 13th, 14th, 15th, or 17th. So... they may have already hired someone, but the law says they must post the opening for a minimum of 14 days for everyone. The expiring date is after school starts. If they don't know about the opening because of enrollment, they can't post it yet... and they know now, but don't have 14 days. So, they may have hired people for the jobs. But, I am always hopeful.

I will be patient. I will wait and see.

I have a miserable cold - it's summer, that's not supposed to happen - I so rarely get sick (viruses). :(
I was hoping to take my grandkids to the beach as the weather is supposed to be really perfect for it - not too hot and not rainy/stormy.

Finally finished off my granddaughter's dress - I sewed on some more daisy appliques to the waist - at the back. :) Now, I have to adjust the waist of the skirt that I made her - it's too big. I think I will take some of the stitching out at the waistband and put elastic through it - that way it can still be adjusted as she grows.

I had planned to sew some other dresses from patterns and fabric that I bought a few years back. Unfortunately, when I laid the pattern out (in the now larger size) it did not fit the yardage. :( When I am feeling better, I will go back to the fabric store to see what else I can find - they have a big clearance sale going on this month. :)

Instead, I will see if I can make the hair bows that my granddaughter likes so much - she is JoJo Siwa fan. Don't know JoJo? Look her up, I had to. Fiona now has 3 original JJ bows - they are not cheap but if it means Fiona will brush her hair and make it tidy, I will spend the money! LOL
I now have a few yards of wide ribbon, some silver fabric paint, and hair grip slides to make some more - I just have to find some embellishments to add to them. ;)

Time to boil the kettle and make some hot tea, grab some more tissues and try to feel better ......
