anyone using crinkle paper in their baby items

i was thinking of using cellophane that has been approved for food use in one of my toys, but since it is not on the exempt list i was wondering if anyone here has found a manufacturer that is willing to supply you with the necessary paper work for this material. thank you

Re: anyone using crinkle paper in their baby items

I have a question regarding an etsy seller who says his crinkle paper is CPSIA compliant, however when you ask him for proof of that he refuses to supply it because he does not want you to know where he gets it from or it simply isnt, does anyone have any feelings on this, how can you say a toy is cpsia compliant if you have no proof that what you are purchasing is compliant....this totally frustrates me, as well as sellers who put small parts on a toy then when questioned say they sell 100's if not 1,000's and have never had a problem and admit their toy is not compliant...
any feedback would be great

Re: anyone using crinkle paper in their baby items

If the cellophane is enclosed and can't be touched, then it is exempt, just as iron on interfacing and fabric glue that holds on trim, if its completly unexposed it's considered inaccessable.

On a retail sale, you do not have to show a buyer proof of testing, nor do you have to tell a buyer where you source your supplies. Now if you are selling supplies, I think you will harm your sales if you do not want to disclose your testing , but if something doesn't require testing since it's sewn inside, then there is no reason to test,

If you don't think something is compliant, don't buy it. And if someone blatently says they know it's not compliant, that's just plain dumb. I personnaly wouldn't buy a toy for a baby that had button eyes. but, buttons on a dress I wouldn't worry about, They don't have to pass small parts testing, as buttons on a child's garment need to be small, as per the CPSC, but I check them for secureness, as machine sewn buttons aren't tied off, nor sewn as securely as proper hand sewn one.

Re: anyone using crinkle paper in their baby items

Thank you beverly, I thought that I had read prior that if its not exposed then its ok...I did contact a shop owner and ask her if her toys were compliant and she said no they are not...not sure how she comes to that determination, other than the fact she has a toy with a plastic front that has small parts behind the viewable plastic...which could rip or be bitten which would then expose the small parts to little hands...but I can't worry about her really...just do my own thing...thank you again
