What about custon orders?

Does this mean that after Feb 10th no one can submit custom orders for children under 12?

Re: What about custon orders?

good question because the law requires "end product testing" not component testing. Interesting....

Re: What about custon orders?

This is a big concern for me as most of my items which end up going to children are custom orders for weddings (flower girls, etc). I'm considering posting a "don't ask, don't tell" notice in my shop that says something to the effect of "if you are wanting this for the younger member of your wedding party, DON'T tell me that's who it's for or I won't be able to sell it to you..."

Re: What about custon orders?

hey, at least you sell a product where it could be sold to someone other then a child. I make burp cloths and bibs. Not too many adults running around with those hanging off their shoulders or around their necks. I might be after this all said and done because it is going to make me go crazy. I will probably end up sitting in a chair drooling myself

This is such a nightmare, so confusing, makes absolutely no common sense!

Re: What about custon orders?

I'd say this is more of an issue after Aug14 since we can get away with a "reasonable testing program" come Feb10.

All I make is one-of-a-kind and custom orders. I consider a reasonable testing program for my situation to be having confidence that my supplies are safe based on the testing performed by the manufacturer or the fact that the material is inherently lead free.

If something doesn't change by Aug 14 I'm shut down because it's not possible to do that level of testing on my finished products...not only because of the extreme expense but also because they'd all be destroyed.

Re: What about custon orders?

LOL...go for it, TieDye! :)

I'm trying my hardest not to take offense at a comment that was made earlier in this thread--I'm hoping I'm just reading it wrong because it's hard to pick up emotions in text. Everyone is tense and stressed out over this law, but you can't assume that someone's business will not be directly affected by this law just because their Etsy shop isn't focused on baby/children's items. Etsy is only a small part of my business and no one would be able to tell just from here what portion of ANY seller's overall sales will be lost if this law is allowed to continue as written.

I, as many people here, will be affected not only as a seller but as a mother who buys handmade for her children and nieces. Maybe if more people who will not have to COMPLETELY go out of business would get involved in this fight we might make more progress...
