What does your label look like?

Just wondering if most people are going to make their own labels as opposed to having them made. Also, what does your label look like? Any cute ideas?

Re: What does your label look like?

Hi, I have tried two types of labels so far. One set I made myself (using the printer) and the other is a woven type that I use now.

The handmade labels were cool because it was convenient to be able to make them instantaneously when you run out. However, they aren't washable (people say you can...but they don't look good afterwards. Faded and start to stretch).

Woven labels are great. Love them. Although takes around 3 wks to receive. Here is a pic (the third one)

Re: What does your label look like?

Oops just checked out your shop (very cute dresses!) and realized that woven labels probably wouldn't be the most comfortable thing to have at your neck. Satin labels perhaps?

Re: What does your label look like?

What do they have to say on the label? Is your shop name enough or do you have to have more info--

Re: What does your label look like?

From what I understand from the new labeling law, they have to have your business name, location, care instructions, fabric content, and date of manufacture. I probably am leaving something out... Alot to fit on one label. I am thinking I will probably have them made, but will have to write the date on the label. I have no idea about how to begin to make my print my own label!

Re: What does your label look like?

Hello there!

I used to make my own; leather pieces with my name hand painted. They were cute! When I had my stuff in a store the feedback was that hand painted lables almost looked TOO handmade.

I now have them silk screened which looks much more professional.

Re: What does your label look like?

That is a lot to put on a lable. I sew them into the side seam near the hem rather than the neckline of my pillowcase dresses. It's a lot easier, they don't irritate, and are still visible.

I had made some printer labels in the past but I don't really like how they look. I am interested in some great looking labels from a fellow etsian too.

spacestitch says:

For the CPSIA compliancy the minimum that any artisan making childrens product must have on the tracking label is :
the city, state/territory, and country the item was made;
production or completion date;
and if not located on a seperate label such as a care or warning label the artisan's or company name.
See http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/sect103policy.pdf for more detailed info.

Now keep in mind this is an additional label to any other labels already required by federal laws such as care or fabric content or choking harard warning. You can try to look those on a category by category at http://www.cpsc.gov/ , but you do have to dig around.

Also this is not just for clothing but for all products that are deemed by the government as being for children 12 and under.

Re: What does your label look like?

Jeez, might as well plaster a stop sign on the item. I'll be taking my shirts down in Aug anyway and won't be making any more kids stuff. How do people stay in business?

Re: What does your label look like?

I ordered iron on labels from namemaker.com

They will say:

www.my-blessed-baby.com
West Palm Beach, FL USA
DOM:__________________

(DOM is date of manufacture. I will just write in the date with a sharpie). I already have woven labels that have my business name.

Re: What does your label look like?

I ordered my labels from an etsy seller. They will include my company name, location, and I will write on the DOM with a fabric pen for each item.

My content and care instructions are printed on the back of my hang tags.

Re: What does your label look like?

Hi
I have just started listing today and am in the process of choosing labels from an etsy seller.
I think I will go for the woven ones to start with.
I would welcome any recommendations as to what sort are best for clothing though.

Re: What does your label look like?

Any suggestions about how to label my items? Some are very small and I'm not sure how to go about it.

Re: What does your label look like?

So, for something like my cloth wipes or Owie Bags, where it wouldn't be feasible to put ON the product, the above info on a hang tag would be okay, right?

Re: What does your label look like?

From the guidelines:

The statutory provision does not require a uniform one-size-fits-all system. Section 103
requires permanent distinguishing marks, but does not specify what those marks are to
look like. At this point, the Commission is not imposing any such uniform requirements,
but expects that manufacturers will use their best judgment to develop markings that best
suit their business and product.

Re: What does your label look like?

What about this idea?

I wondered about having a (tiny) stamp made that says:

www.SusiesSewCreative.Etsy.com
Springfield, MO - USA
DOM/# _____________________

I would stamp it on fusible stabiler such as OESD Fusible PolyMesh and then use a fabric marker to write in the date of manufacture and item number. I would keep a list by item number of what materials/components are used in each item.

Because I've read that fusible doesn't count as permanent...I would iron it on just to help with placement and then stitch around the edges. Maybe I would cut the labels out with pinking shears and stitch just inside the pinked edges.

I think the tricky part would be making a very small font stamp and using a very fine marker so that I can keep the labels small.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm still brainstorming and would welcome any ideas. Do you think this will work?
