Re: Some Interesting Info Re February 2010

I like this:

"The letter also addressed another Congressman’s allegation that “too many children have been poisoned by lead and other substances in their toys.”

Keithley clarified:

Despite the unusual and unacceptable number of toy recalls that occurred two years ago, toys have historically been among the safest of 15 common consumer product categories in the home. Approximately 3 billion toys are sold in the United States each year and less than 1% of those are recalled. Of the toy products that were recalled in 2007 for lead standard violations, there were no reports of any injuries or adverse health effects. In fact, we know of no instance where a child has been injured from lead in toys; the only documented lead-related tragedy came from a charm (children’s jewelry) accompanying a pair of sneakers – not a toy."

On the other hand, did you guys see the stats this week that 120 children go to the emergency room every day in the USA because of BATHTUB injuries?

Re: Some Interesting Info Re February 2010

What?? aren't there labels on bathtubs?? Is that why my son got stitches on his chin when he was 3? Its because there was no label!! Ack....it was definitly not my fault for turning my back on a slippery 3 year old who wanted to climb out "by myself."

Re: Some Interesting Info Re February 2010

In the USA it is illegal for boys under 12 to bathe as bath tubs are dangerous.

That would be a popular law in our house. I know at least one 6-year-old who would be behind it 100%.

Anyone with children or who makes things for children should read what products are dangerous on the consumer products webpage: http://www.cpsc.gov/library/data.html

It is amazing where the real dangers lie. For example - Suffocation by stuffed animals is more prevalent than choking on eyes or stuffing.

Re: Some Interesting Info Re February 2010

My grandson would.
DuhBe I read a little of that article a lot of things parents weren't watching their kids it looks like. Little ones riding bikes into pools and drowning how sad. I am not selling children's things but I feel so sorry for those of you that do. My daughter bought some lovely handmade wooden toys from an etsy seller she cried when I told her he will probably have to close his shop.

Ditto in my house! My two would be quite content to leave bathing optional (and infrequent...) =)

I have to agree with breadandroses2. Thanks to bobbinalong - you have remained very positive and have posted great information straight from cpsc.

Thank you,
