I just updated my blog with photos of the Goodwill signs and the letter from my Senator.

anickas, if you click on the image it will be larger and easy to read

It's crazy that they even have to do this :-(

theemptyenvelope, I can relate to the crooked sign making you nuts LOL
I can't resist straightening crooked framed pictures whenever I see them :-)

Man, this is so bad! It would have been really cool if the included a webpage or phone number. Maybe you might want to make some of those perforated rip-off tags for the stores for them to hand out at counter.

Oops, sorry about that. It's pretty much stating that they are complying with the law and not selling certain items.

I keep rereading the letter too and I feel like it goes in circles:).

annemusingdesigns, you know what, they did have some little rip off things! I didn't take a photo of those! It had some government CPS info on it.

If the USA just stopped taking imports from the problem areas, maybe the problem with lead would end.
I visited your blog, thanks for sharing.

I got the same letter 4 or 5 times and I'm not impressed. McCollum tends to send a form letter reply to everything stating what the law is (as if you didn't already know that) that she will keep your concerns in mind.

Re: Photos from Goodwill and letter from Senator...

The timing of this can’t be worse.

With soooo many people out of work used clothes for kids who need a new set every new season is the way to go for many, many, many people.

Government trying to fix and control every aspect of life making sure people are safe! What an outrage! What is even scarier is that these are the people who are putting together the stimulus plan. Terrifying!

I heard that ours are in the same state here in the Triangle, NC. Also, the second hand store in Cary, that was so successful recycling good used children's clothes had to close because of this law. It was on the news today.

Re: Photos from Goodwill and letter from Senator...

I will add this also, when my kids where small, we dressed them from second hand places. I do not know what we would have done without them. Literally, we dressed them from used clothing. We would go to Gymboree or Gap for their one nice outfit during their seasonal sale, and that was it!

I loved yard sales where you could go through a box of used children's clothes for 25cents a piece.

The problem is that these goverment people making there 6 figure incomes, lawyers, married to lawyers with nanny's and limo drivers... Have no clue! No clue. They point the finger at Wall Street, they are such hypocrites!

Re: Photos from Goodwill and letter from Senator...

today in Minneapolis, an ATV dealership had to pull all the kids dirt bikes and small atvs off their sales floor. Can't sell them, can't do anything with them! Cuz, of course, there's lead in the battery and some of the metal parts. This is snowballing out of control!

Wow rockfabricscissors...I went to one of the Unique Thrift Stores today and there were no bikes outside. I was surprised they still had clothes inside.

SusanAnna, my kids are 8 and 6 and I've been buying second hand clothes for them since I was pregnant with the first. And toys.

Meredithdillman, I was not surprised at all to get such a confusing letter! And I've been to Klobuchar's page a few times and she seems to be very set on this:(.

Klobuchar was a sponsor. She did write a letter requesting guidance on a lot of things for what it's worth.

Re: Photos from Goodwill and letter from Senator...

Our local current events program had a special on tonight about where to find bargains, one of the shops they featured was a thrift/consignment shop that specialized in children's things--used hand me downs and new handmade stuff. When the piece about it started my first thought was, I wonder if they know about CPSIA? There was no mention about it in the piece at all. I'm guessing the show was put together last week, I'll bet either the shop owner is blissfully unaware of what's going on or she's closed up shop. I did email the program through the station's website asking about it--they usually read emails from viewers about previous shows at the end of each show, I wonder if they'll read mine on the air.....

Re: Photos from Goodwill and letter from Senator...

Oh, and I am really unimpressed with Klobuchar....when she was running her campaign to get elected I got tons of emails telling me about her campaign and asking me to vote for her, I repeatedly emailed back that I am not in her district and should be taken off their mailing list but they just kept coming. @@

Re: Photos from Goodwill and letter from Senator...

When we had 3 arsons in 2 months in our apartment building in Minneapolis, Klobuchar had a kind message for us on the news . I always liked her, but we moved and I wasn't in her district. I've thought of her as being reasonable and I get where she's coming from. I just don't think this is the way to do it. It's like when my kids keep coming home sick. I make sure to go over hand washing and proper things like that, I don't just get rid of the kids!
