Now I'm confused about wool

Ok...so I thought that Wool was exempt...so I just plunked down a huge chunk of change and got 100% wool felt.

Is this not true? is it not exempt?

I'm sooo lost in the sea of CPSIA crapola.

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

Fabric...untreated (which means like plastic coated, not just dyed) is exempted. I'll get the reference for you and post.

I loved your video

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

Originally the ruling was only natural, undyed fabrics, like cotton, wool, silk, and linen...but it has been expanded to include any fabric (since fabric, even synthetic doesn't have noticeable lead content)

NOW...you're concern on your great puppets is labeling, which goes into effect in August.

______

hah! Well I think as you can see it has a stoic expression, so the only thing to do now is to make it in natural wool! :)

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

Ok....can I be lazy and ask my labeling questions here?

Does it have to be permanently attached?

What does it have to say?

Can I write "Suck it CPSIA" on the label?

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

keeping in mind that the items I make are 2 inches tall, making a label with all of the needed info (I found the thread) would be ridicucrazy. I wonder if I could permanently affix a label that's on a string that trails the puppet by a good 3-4 inches.. permanently affixed of course (sewn to the puppet's patootie) It would be a fabric label...just...a trailing one?

would this not work? I have a feeling this won't work...someone tell me it will work.

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

It's hard to say what will be acceptable. Sounds good to me...but then I'm not the Toy Police

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

I think it would work - but then, oh my goodness, what if the buyer cuts the label off! GASP - will the CPSIA and Congress come after parents then!!!

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

that's the thing, you can argue that no tag is permanent. Even the tagless shirt-tags wear off after 12 washings.

I think that's what I'll do. I might get a stamp made that has a place to fill all of the things out with my name & address filled in already (then blank boxes for the items name, lot #, etc. Considering that I mostly make one of a kind items, i'm going to have to start my lot #'s low :)

Time to get a PO BOX...oK so it was time to get a PO box 3 years ago...ah well.

Re: Now I'm confused about wool

staceyrebecca can you lead me to the thread about what has to be included on the labels? I think this whole thing is insane. I am all for safety of children but this is a little extreme.

Or get a RN (registration number) from the FTC to use instead of your name and adress. It will save a lot of space on the label.
