I haven't read all the forum threads on the CPSIA new law that will go into effect in February, but the ones I have read have made my heart sink! I'm not affected by this law, but I very much love handmade children's items and I myself have 3 little kiddos.

If you're a shop/seller that will be affected by this new law and you are scrambling to unload your inventory before the February deadline, please POST HERE in this thread so we can compile a long list of sellers.....this way I can shop, shop, shop in your shops and others here on Etsy who want to help but don't know how can also know who to buy from. This is my small way of helping by supporting you all from a buyers standpoint and also come alongside you from a fellow seller's standpoint. I love to buy children's gifts for lots of friends who have baby showers and I also love unique items for my own kids too. Please post your shop so we can support you!

So let's get some support going for you (and encouragement too) and hopefully you can make some sales during this very difficult time.

I'm here for you!

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

I am affected and I am just sickened, this is my passion and love.
Now what?
I buy my fabric from other etsy sellers to support others, i do not buy wholesale, my profit is tiny!
I can not afford to test my products (fabric!!!!)

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

I know you all need to prepare for the worst and start selling off inventory. But please also keep fighting this! If you haven't called your Congressional reps in a while, time to call again! Call your TV stations and papers. Keep the pressure on!

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

I only have two children's craft books here on Etsy (under supplies!0 that are affected:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5416792&section_id=5436571

However, I own bookstore and I'm looking at having to get rid of 1000+ children's books. By CPSIA rules, I cannot even give them away to libraries or charity!
You can see what I have for kids books on my store website: http://www.rainydaypaperback.com

If you're in Bethel, CT area, you can come into actual store and see more that I don't have listed.

BOOOO on CPSIA. No more Golden Books, Amelia Bedelia, Magic Treehouse, Goosebumps, Clifford the Big Red Dog, of Junie B. Jones. I have to toss them February 10th.

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

Lori, thanking God for you in a big way! You are such a blessing to so many! {{hugs}}

My shop has been on hold for the past few months due to the busyness of preparing for a new baby, but it will definitely affect any future business I may have had.

I did find one glimmer of hope today, has anyone else heard about the OOAK exemption??? I read it in this newspaper article: http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/business/local/article/E-TOYS26_20081225-212814/162286/
Don't know if it's true, but it would help a lot of us, for sure!

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

I didn't even think of all the books.....I love buying books from all those great used bookstores and garage sales. We started collecting golden books when my little one was just a baby so I will definitely check out your site fenrislorsrai and see if you have any great books that little one doesn't have yet(and he does have a ton).

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

This is a wonderful idea, Lori!

I'm also affected, I'm a designer of kidsclothing living in the Netherlands and Etsy is the only place I have regular sales. I use unique vintage 60's and 70's materials that make most of my items one of a kind. Like so many, I don't know what to do really!

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

Im shocked that so many are just closing shop?! I had no idea. Ive been making and selling childrens clothing for more than 10 years, and the last 3 on etsy. i have no intention on closing until someone makes me. This is a sad sad time indeed - when i think of all the beautiful things going away! Im gonna stick it out and hope for some changes after the deadline!

I just started on etsy and now might have to shut it down. I'm stuck at one listing. No reason to put up anymore until I know how this is going to end.

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

I have some items that I may have to drop entirely and some I may start offering patterns for and dropping the actual items. Pretty much everything involving the alphabet at this point unless some exemptions get passed for yarn. I also have one lonely puppet. I like making them, but they were not selling as quickly of some of my other items and my kids have enough puppets of their own, lol.

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

I'm on the fence as to whether or not this law will effect me.

I always perceive my items to be geared towards teens, tweens, and young adults, but I also know that they also attract younger girls, too.

Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)

susiedees says:
I just read that products made before November 12th, 2008 do not have to be tested or certified. This new law only applies to items produced on November 12th 2008 or after. I am sorry, i do not know how to put the link to the website in but here is the website address.

http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/frnotices/fr09/certification.html

*************************************************
I don't have any stock from before November 12th. The holiday season completely wiped out any stock I had. Everything I have in stock now was made after Christmas.

Well, except for that one clown that loves me too much to leave lol. He was there Nov12th. So I do officially have one exempt item.
