I haven't read all the forum threads on the CPSIA new law that will go into effect in February, but the ones I have read have made my heart sink! I'm not affected by this law, but I very much love handmade children's items and I myself have 3 little kiddos.

If you're a shop/seller that will be affected by this new law and you are scrambling to unload your inventory before the February deadline, please POST HERE in this thread so we can compile a long list of sellers.....this way I can shop, shop, shop in your shops and others here on Etsy who want to help but don't know how can also know who to buy from. This is my small way of helping by supporting you all from a buyers standpoint and also come alongside you from a fellow seller's standpoint. I love to buy children's gifts for lots of friends who have baby showers and I also love unique items for my own kids too. Please post your shop so we can support you!

So let's get some support going for you (and encouragement too) and hopefully you can make some sales during this very difficult time.

I'm here for you!

Rhody says:
Now I make hats and scarfs for adults. do I have to get rid of them too???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No, I think I read that it only affects items for children 12 & under.
Don't get me started on politics, but this is just one more thing that George Bush has done to ruin our country.
Simplyclassytoo- It was Bobby Rush, a democrat, who sponsered this bill.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
I cry alot I'm afraid. I never thought legislation could squash my passion. I feel defeated. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. All my kids items (99% of my shop) are discounted.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
This is a really sad law and most of the items that I love making(and selling) will be affected by it. I was also hoping to start selling a new line this month but I guess that's on the back burner until I see if the law gets changed at all.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
Oh yeah. Definitely will be affected. I've called my congresswoman's office. I can only think to label the items "not intended for children under 12" but I'm not sure even that would be acceptable.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
I think I'm still in disbelief. I have reduced the price on all my items, as my shop is entirely dedicated to babies and children. I had planned on closing shop in February for a brief time as I'm expecting our third child, but it makes me so sad to think that I won't ever be able to re-open.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
I can't believe they are taking this right away from the American people. Many of these items being crafted are part of the American heritage and have been passed down from generation to generation! Quilts, knitted blankets, wooden toys ... Etc! It's just horrible!
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
This was a bipartisan, knee jerk piece of legislation. Any veto by Bush would have been overturned. The sad thing is most of our elected officials didn't look past the end of their noses at the widespread effect of this. What a mess!
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
I am selling off my inventory at reduced prices.
A lot of people have been trying to get this changed, but I think you hit the nail on the head. Many of you can help by just going in and buying things you have had hearted forever. If you don't buy it now, you won't get to, and us sellers won't get a chance to sell it. It will just be deleted.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
I'm a Canadian seller with a home business in childrens' products & have been selling worldwide for over 10 years. A huge percentage of business with customers from the USA. Since my products are lead free & already conform to Canadian Safety standards, I find this whole CPSIA situation riduiculous.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
It's my understanding from another thread that a committee is meeting soon (in Jan.) to discuss this. Hope that's true. congrats SugarPlum! Maybe by the time you're ready to get going again, all of this will be settled in our favor!
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
Seems like a crazy law to me -- Everything in my shop is 20% off any sale over $15 ---- New items being added often. Please check it out.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
will be affected- tweaking my inventory to one of kind toys- I am not sure if it will officially be an exemption:
http://www.etsy.com/storque/craftivism/cpsia-updates-and-calls-to-action-3157/
the handmade toy alliance is a great spot- they are all working hard trying to draft natural materials exemptions to be viewed by congress- let's keep going- reminds me of my favorite quote:
"A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
Thank you, Wildwood! That is my hope. I just keep praying that this will be changed. In my mind it's so ludicrous I don't know how it could not be, but on the other hand . . . it's government!
Most of my shop is for babies & kids. I've got my fingers, toes, legs, and arms crossed that someone will come to their senses and realize the impact this is going to have on our economy.
Re: How can I help you? (CPSIA)
Makers of children's items, please sit tight and deal with the unknown for now...It's too soon to give it away, there'll be time to do that later when it is a done deal. The law is way too outlandish for it to be of any practical use. They'll HAVE to amend it and they're just going after huge companies right now.
