Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

Thank god!!!!! Tracking the labeling and fabric and whatnot has been stressful enough without getting ready to test everything!

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

I'm happy about it but from what I read, this stay is just to give (Mattel) more time to set up testing facilities. Oh the irony!

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

I don't understand what I have read, which is not unusual where the CPSIA stuff is concerned. What is the "new" date for required testing? The latest date that I could find in the information that I received is February 10, 2010. This is the same date that I have been seeing for months. Can anyone clear it up for me?

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

Hilarious. When are they going to realize it CAN'T be enforced and just scrap the whole thing?

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

YAY!!! I agree with punkynmunky (SP?) I have already invested alot into them passing these laws, making changes in my products, getting all my labeling just right. Lots of expensive and time consuming research and adjustments! I'm very glad, but really frustrated too! I could have saved myself alot of headaches and tears!!!! At least I know, my dresses are as safe as they can be now. No worries. I guess I will just swallow the cost for everything I've put into it and go on.

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

What does this mean? I'm so confused...

Isn't the law already in place that all items need to be labeled with business name, contact information and DOM?

Also, isn't the law already in place regarding testing items for lead that are intended for children?

What about items that may pose as a choking hazard? What am I supposed to do about that? Is it enough to simply state "Choking Hazard, not intended for children under age 3"....

Can someone please clarify? What does the date extension apply to????

PLEASE HELP!!

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

PicCircusDesigns, Yes - the law went into effect in February. The labeling requirement took effect in August. There is now an 'exempt from testing' list, items like fabric, lace, yarn do not need to be tested. And there is a 'stay' on the testing requirement that has just been extended to Feb. 2011.

The choking hazard is a whole separate issue not included in the CPSIA law.

SewFunDollClothes says: ...

_____________________________________________________________________________

Not entirely true, the CPSIA did not change the actual regulation or testing methods for small parts but it did increase the penalties per infraction or lack of correctly formated warning labels to nearly equal the monetary fines and imprisonment terms to the nearly the same as for the lead limit violations.

Re: Extension of Stay of Enforcement for one more year

Thanks for the correction jewelrydesigns! And ouch - those penalties are so steep, this is a good reminder that everyone is really going to want to know how this law effects the particular items they're making/selling.
