I just heard Rush talking about the CPSIA. I don't think he mentioned it by name, but he was talking about the children's motorbikes that will be pulled because of lead in the engines, and mentioned library books. Still listening.
Right...that's exactly what Rush and Sean Hannity and others do. They saw a need and are filling it. They get high salaries because of our free market system. Now they have the means to help others monetarily and they do it.
Sorry this has gotten away from the topic. I just would hate to have anyone turn down help on this issue because they don't like the messenger.
I could do without watching Oprah, but I'd love for her to bring it up on her show! I think I'm supposed to be in her demographic, but I'm just not that fond of her show.
I don't know if the View could offer anything positive for our cause. *grin* Entertaining? maybe. Educational? I don't think so-I think they'd end up adding more confusion to the issue.
Not buying from someone because they listen to Rush? Wow...if you can discriminate so easily for something like that, I imagine that your do not buy list is long and the reasons interesting.
Forgive me, I'm confused. What does ABC's affiliation with Disney have to do with this? As far as I know (and I don't watch it, so my knowledge is limited), The View hasn't discussed this issue. Did I miss something?
It's so lovely to see Etsy vendors who do not sell products affected by this law trying to hijack and thread and make it an us against them issue.
Good for all of you who are selling products for children for having a little bit of you issue talked about by a program that reaches so many listeners! I hope you all email him to let him know how it is affecting people even smaller than dirt bike manufacturers.
I don't care what his motivation is, this needs to be heard and the law needs to be rewritten in a way that protects children but does not punish mom and pop stores.

So many sellers sell so many things in so many places. No one really has any idea what a seller's interest is just based on their etsy store. Every single jeweler out there has an interest in this since most jewelry can be a gift for children and teens.
Too bad some people like to aspersions rather than be helpful.
I sell several things that are affected by this. I just don't sell them here. Etsy isn't the beginning and end of the selling universe. It's actually quite a small part of the equation in the grand scheme of ecommerce.
There will always be people who simply want to cause a commotion wherever they go. It's a puzzle to me, because those who profess themselves to be "liberal" are the ones who are actually anything but! I'm reading a great book, "Liberal Fascism," by Jonah Goldberg. It's really helped me to understand the liberal/progressive link and outlines the history of the movement. It helps to learn all you can about your adversaries.
the way the law is written now makes it a bad law for business owners AND for children. how in the world are they supposed to develop properly if their toys and learning items are put through such ridiculous procedures? as it is now, this law is NOT about protecting kids. until it is rewritten it is a BAD LAW.
You have to say WHY it's a "bad law" or you might as well not contact anyone about this.
Here's a short list:
1) Duplicate testing is overly burdensome.
2) Laws are not supposed to be overly burdensome.
3) Manufacturers and importers should be required to certify their products and end users should be able to use those products in good faith.
4) End user testing makes no sense. Why should 10,000 end users have to test one product. Products should come to market in compliance.
5) Imports should be certified PRIOR to being allowed into the US and then should be tested to make sure they actually comply when they get here.
I'm sure there are a couple more, but that hits the highlights.
You must clearly state these type of things when you speak with anyone about this. You can't just say "it's going to put small businesses out of business."
As for Jonah Goldberg, he's a nitwit (making money spewing ridiculous sh*t just like Rush Limbaugh does) and I'm not a liberal so don't lump people into categories and label them as adversaries unless you really know who you are addressing.
This piece of crap law passed with FULL Republican support and was signed by a Republican President so the idea that this is some liberal (remember, I'm NOT a liberal) conspiracy is more histrionics.
Histrionics won't change this law and Rush Limbaugh won't be able to change this law and unless people speak intelligently about it they will be dismissed.
Bad (or whoever you are), those of us who have been working on this for several months now already know everything in your last post, those who are late to the game shouldn't tell the team players how to play....

Silly me, I thought this forum was open to all Etsy members.
it's easier to call it a "bad law" after weeks of stating those points in previous posts badattitude.
but it's always good to have a concise list of points so thanks for the compilation! :) __________
I think it just boils down to semantics, really. In theory, of course a law that will keep dangerous levels of lead of phalates away from our children is a great idea, but it was rushed through and they didn't think through the far reaching consequences.
Perhaps I need to clarify for those of you who are having difficulty understanding what I said..... You were NOT asked to leave the forum or not post, you were TOLD that we don't need to be lectured to about information we already have discussed previously. __________________________________________________ badattitude says:
I only started hearing about this on Etsy recently.
