HELP!

Hey guys! I really need some serious help. I've had my machine (Brother SE 400) for a few months but haven't mastered it yet. I just get so frustrated sometimes. I have a real problem with design placement and stabilizing.

I ordered some Gildan sweatshirts to monogram for Christmas but I completely forgot how horrible I am at hooping. I found a video on YouTube yesterday saying typically for a woman designs are placed 4-6' from the center of the shirt and 7-9' from the neck seam, and this is where the center of the design lines up with. If I use 2 and 3' design where should I line it up? Also once I import my design to my machine should I move it?

Re: HELP!

I have been placing the top of design 3 to 3 1/2 inches from center neckline.
I do move design when I down load. This has worked out pretty good for me..
I still have problems when placing on left side of shirt for monogram. Sometimes I try the shirt on and pin area that I like.. I also have a hard time hooping straight. I measure a lot and pin center. make sure you are on a hard surface. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, haven't had time to read post...hope your holiday shirts turned out great.

Re: HELP!

Embroidery Library have really useful resources for advice on hooping, stabilisers and placement. The placement guide is athttp://www.emblibrary.com/EL/elprojects/Projects.aspx?cs_productid=pr1152&cs_catalog=elprojects

I usually start from their guidelines and then adjust by eye. If it is a repeat order, I keep a note of the measurements so they are exactly the same. I also find quilter's acrylic rulers useful, I use 2 to set the centre horizontal and vertical lines and slip the paper template underneath, then hold it down with masking tape and hoop it up. Once it is on the machine, check the needle is going to hit the centre dead on and adjust if necessary. If the fabric is slippery or would be marked by tape, I mark the lines with tailor's chalk or a vanishing pen instead.

Re: HELP!

We also at first mark the fabric with chalk or neddles to mark the place of design. it really helps.
