shop layout is a key factor
A good shop layout is very important for both sellers and buyers. What do you think about the new layout?
The number of sales is an very important info for buyers... I don't understand why it does not show on the front page.
Anyone knows how to re-arrange items under the new layout? It is supposed to have a button for rearranging items at the left hand side...
What's the point of moving the FB/ twitter link to the very bottom of the page? Also,
shop where's my banner and announcement???
I don't think this new layout will be welcomed by sellers.

Which 'new layout' are you referring to? I've seen at least three versions.
Etsy will continue to test layouts in order to see which is more 'shoppping friendly'
There are always tests going on within Etsy. Most of them you simply don't see.

Yes, you are correct at least 3. I don't mind them changing the interface for buyers, but they keep changing it for sellers and some versions lack functions/menu options from the original. It makes posting new items and editing old ones very slow. I contacted Etsy several times about this. The response I got (to say it politely) were absolutely stupid.
And it goes from one to the other back and forth with no rhyme or reason. When it goes to the style(s) I don't like I simply stop posting.
I have better things to do than help them with some silly experiment.

The bottom line is that Etsy has the best interests of its sellers in mind - if we don't sell, their business model doesn't work. It would, however, be nice if we had several options to choose from as far as layout - high dollar sellers would benefit from a different layout than small gift items or supplies dealers.

I embrace change, but do not like the new layout. It makes it hard to get a full sense of the shop. My shop does not rely on sections as much as a complete view. This new layout adds extra clicks to potential buyers to see all the items -getting there with fewer clicks is what usability is all about.

I don't like the fact that I can't rearrange things anymore. Taking away the banners makes every shop so cookie cutter similar. Why can't I choose the featured items, instead of the last items posted?

Re: shop layout is a key factor
I care about what they do, because at the moment 100% of our revenue comes through Etsy.
I want them to make changes that improve the site. Sometimes they make changes that I don't like for one aesthetic or functional reason or another; for instance, I strongly dislike the new Search Ads pricing, as I'm now paying 3x as much for the same return. I didn't like the move to redefine handmade, but alas.
This new layout (the one without the banners) has some things I like and some things I don't; I think my dislike is largely irrelevant, though, because I use Etsy exclusively through a PC. I think they are making a lot of the changes to make the site easier to navigate on tablets and phones; if they say these changes increase sales across the board, I'm okay with that.
I do like my banner :)

Re: shop layout is a key factor
I think it is only a test and they'll remove it, hopefully soon. This layout is terrible.
The only thing I like is that you can see the reviews and the pictures are big. But my items are all jumbled up....

I don't like the new layout, but I don't care anymore, because I'm closing my shop on Etsy so it doesn't realy matter. I don't like the fact that there is no longer shop annoucement, sold items and the fact that I can't rearrange my items.

Re: shop layout is a key factor
If they get rid of banners or don't implement a cover photo deal, at least 50% of my business from etsy clients will be gone, soooo I am not pleased with the layout version I got to test. I suppose my voice and opinion are moot to them though considering I'm dealing with mostly store front graphics and digital items. The lack of shop announcements (which I didn't notice when I sent my feedback), is also concerning, considering I need that to let people know my turn around times in the easiest manner possible. Don't want clients to purchase listings and then "SURPRISE!" in the message to buyers it says they have to wait two weeks.
At least they're making it easier for me to decide if I want to close up my etsy shop entirely :/

Re: shop layout is a key factor
PS- Also taking away banners (again on the version I have to test), is basically taking away a key part in branding, so that's a pretty huge annoyance as well. We already have limited ways here to make our shops "our own".

Re: shop layout is a key factor
I hate it too. Fortunately, most of the buyers aren't seeing it. And I did let them know how awful it was in the survey.
To rearrange, go to https:// etsy.com/shop/yourshopname/rearrange
In other words, your shop address with rearrange stuck on the end of it. You'll still see a jumbled mess if you're stuck in the experiment, but most of the buyers won't.

I also noticed that there is no etsy local - buyers can't see which crafts shows I'll be attending. Lovely, just lovely!

Re: shop layout is a key factor
so I never saw any new layout i guess, I have noticed I can't click the like on fb button anymore, even the one at the bottom is only for Etsy. Where do you find the ones that link to fb.
I still have banners and rearrange so am assuming you all where in a test group?

I don't mind the tests at all! I think it's fun to be included - to see how Etsy might change in the future. Plus, if Etsy didn't do tests, how would they find out what changes might work?
It's like trying on clothes before you buy them. Gotta see if they'll fit before you spend your hard-earned money on them and bring them home! ;)

Re: shop layout is a key factor
Change is wonderful, however this particular change of layout is not so pretty, it's looking like Ebay in my opinion. I like the large photos, I do not like how everyone's shop now kind of looks the same due to the banners disappearing. Marketing and branding is important to me. It would be nice to see more focus on social media, especially Instagram.
I also do not like the store feedback displayed at the bottom of the page. UGH... very tacky!!! Who wants other people's language on the front page of their store? Especially when there are spelling and grammatical errors? The statistical feedback score was more helpful as a buyer in my opinion.

Re: shop layout is a key factor
Does anyone know if there is a thread somewhere that Etsy are gathering feedback on the new layout. I gave my feedback through the survey a day or so ago but I keep finding features that I used to have that are no longer there and that I think are really helpful for me and for customers and I'd like to feed these back to the Etsy team.. just not sure where to go to do that..
For example - my shop now looks a complete mess because I am on Google Chrome and for some reason the new layout means I have to scroll across the pages to see them - nightmare.... It seems ok on Internet Explorer but I don't use that so it doesn't help me...
Also I would like the Search in this Shop back right on the front page - at the moment you seem to have to go to All Items and then you can search in my shop. I want customers to be able to stay in my shop and not disappear somewhere else because they can't find a way to search within my shop.
I can't find a way to re-arrange my shop so everything is a jumble. I have 289 items so I want my shop to look more coherent than it is at the moment.
I am a bit concerned with the new Sections being all that a customer sees when they come to my shop. I sell on another internet site and it did something similar several months ago. Since then my sales have really dropped on that site. Not sure if there is a connection or something else is going on but it does concern me.
As you can tell, I'm really not liking the new layout. I am very happy for Etsy to make changes and have never felt strongly or been affected by them in the past but at the moment this is slowing me down as everything looks horrible....
Ok, rant over! Have a wonderful weekend!

Ooh yes and I agree about the feedback at the bottom of the page. I also think that the number of stars and amount of feedback that you have should be at that part of the page rather than the top so that there's not only a couple of comments visible and customers get a better general impression of your feedback rating.

Etsy Admins have said that we WILL have a banner and the functionality we're used to (incl. rearranging) once the testing is done. Not sure if I believe them, but that's what they've said!
