Why is it so hard to get people to "like" your page on facebook.

I'm not a big fb fanatic but I use it aleast 4-5 times a week. I have over 200 friends and which 90% I actually know. I sent out emails to majority of my friends asking them to like my page. Updated my status with enticing 15% and 10% off your next purchase to like my page. Still only 5 people responded. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Why is it so hard to get people to "like" your page on facebook.

It took me months and months before I started having people "Like" my Facebook page.

I do have a blog and I have added my Facebook link in my Announcements as well as having it on my business cards.

To be honest I'm not completely sure how some people have discovered my page, and I wish I had some concrete advice, but for me it has just taken time and lots of patience.

Re: Why is it so hard to get people to "like" your page on facebook.

I'm having the same problem. I just recently started my FB page, but I only have 27 likes, which is a little discouraging. I hate posting about it on my personal page all the time because I feel like I'm spamming my friends, but I don't know many ways to get fans when I'm just starting out.

I ordered business cards yesterday and included my FB page on them, so I'm hoping that helps. I feel like a blog would be a good thing to do, I just have no idea where to start with that.

Yeah I was thinking about starting a blog, but I have no idea what to write about constantly. Well besides my personal life I do have 4 kids who keeps my dying laughing.

I have my facebook settings so that those kinds of invitations get filtered, so I'm guessing some of your friends do the same. I feel like otherwise I get all kinds of Farmville, etc... stuff sent to me all the time.

Lol, I have four kids, too, and they'd take up the majority of any blog I tried to write. They definitely make for good entertainment. :)

You're jewelry's cute and seems to be reasonably priced. You may reword your banner ad to include a product description for better SEO. And then promote, promote, promote. Facebook, twitter, flickr, tumbler, stubledupon, squidoo....as many as you can make time for daily. Don't be afraid to plug your items (without spamming) in any chat rooms, forums, and blogs you belong to. Setting up Google Analytics will tell you where you get the most traffic from and help you decide where and when to focus your markeing efforts after a couple of weeks.

You have to be a little bit shameless (but legal) about this. I see internet marketing like the new version of the paper flyer. You want to drive people to your site, but you may only get a 1-5% response, which means you need to really put yourself out there. Especially with the ultra-competitive jewelry market. Good luck.

Re: Why is it so hard to get people to "like" your page on facebook.

Ha! I thought the same thing when I started my Facebook page. I had a few friends "Like" me, and then it sat for a while. I'm now just starting to get outside "Likes" :)
I would say the majority of my blog posts are about my kids, and I do find it difficult to write everyday. One thing I have noticed others do is maybe share some items from their favorite Etsy shops, or have guests they feature once a week. I think that keeps the writing part not so overwhelming.

There are so many little things to remember when operating an online shop it sure does make for a lot!
