When do you consider your shop to be succesful?

I am a Etsy shop owner from the Netherlands. In the Netherlands Etsy isn't known very well. This did not stop me from starting an Etsy shop for vintage home decor items. My expectations where not very high and the first months where very slow and I did not have the idea that it would become successful until the end of last year. Since then I have had about 2 to 3 sales per week. More then 70% of all my items are sold outside Europe. With respect to the high shipping costs I think that I am doing well and I had the idea my shop was successful. But now I am expecting more. I want to sell 5 (or more) items per week to be successful.

When do you consider your shop successful and are you also shifting expectations?

Re: When do you consider your shop to be succesful?

I think to define level of success is very personal. For me, I'm a stay at home mom, so the fact that I'm able to get any work done in a day is considered a success!

I personally consider my shop a success, as I am selling on other venues which are doing much better than my Etsy venue. My plan is to be able to work full time once my youngest is in school.

Being considered a success is very subjective because we all have different goals. Love your shop by the way!

Re: When do you consider your shop to be succesful?

My first sale in 2010 made me feel successful. Now I see direct traffic in my stats. Customers that come directly to my shop. I have many repeat customers. Sales all over the world. Now I have the time to build my inventory to a volume that will truly generate some income.

I agree with Elizabeth that "success" is very personal. I consider my shop is successful when people feel my work is beautiful and unique; also when I can't possibly fulfill the orders (because of overflowing orders) within the processing time... Hope that day will come soon! :)
