Hi teammates,
You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?
I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.
Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

I just recently took the plunge and changed my shop name. It's the Wee Scarlett Studio.
Wee is a term used a lot in Scotland for anything little, as my shop is little atthe moment and sells miniatures it seemed an appropriate start! My surname is Scarlett, I've always loved the name and felt like it added something personal to include it in the shop. My "studio" at the moment is just my flat but thats the home of my creative practice and feel it gives an impression of my mini workshop.

Growing up partially in Norwell, Massachusetts we were quite close to the "North River".. Our shop gets its namesake from this gorgeous natural treasure. You can view the North River while traveling on 3A in Masschusetts.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hi! It's really interesting to read your name stories! As for me, I have two shops, Cat&Craft and Cat&CraftGeeky. I love animals and especially cats and I have rescued and adopted many stray cats. They are members of my family and they have made me a better human being. I also love crafts,I've been making things since forever. So if I had to choose only two words to describe me and my life, that would be cat and craft and that's how I came up with the name :)

This is great. My name is 15 monkeys, which whenever someone hears it...They giggle. When I was talking about starting my own business I wanted to come up with a name that didn't stick me in one specific category. So after discussing it with my brother I said I always have tons of ideas jumping around in my head like monkeys, I said, "can you imagine what it's like having 15 monkeys jumping around in your head at all times"? He stopped me and said,"that's it"! I said,"that's what?" He said,"your name... It should be 15 monkeys !". That was that😀

My name is Victoria, I'm a painter from Australia. For the last couple of years I have been working on a pretty exciting body of work that is now available in my Etsy stall in the form of artist prints of my originals, T-shirts and wall-hangings and I'm so happy that I can share them with you.
Please if you like what I've been working on feel free to come and have a look and show your support.
Cheers!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
I was born on a small island in the Caribbean but my middle name is Nashba (of African origin as far as I've been told). From a young age I've always loved everything african (food, clothing, dance, anything) even though I wasn't necessarily fond of my middle name. However when I moved to New York a few years ago, I somehow began to embrace the name and realized that it really was part of who I am. And so it was a no-brainer when I decided on an African design shop (although a few of my products don't necessarily follow that pattern) to name it after myself and use of course the African name

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
We actually started out as Against the Grain. We did only butcher blocks and cutting boards so it was good at the time. However, we found it was a little boring and not original enough. We then started to branch out into many different types of wood products. And the name just wasn't relevant to anything about us. So we brainstormed...We live on a higher elevation in our area and have a line of pine and maple trees that break the west wind. So we ended up with Tree Line Wood Products.
We thought it was fitting not only because of the line of trees but the fact that we work with wood and wanted something related to trees. So it just worked perfectly.

I actually had to remove the creative name from my shop because it was much to focused for my personality. Maybe in the future I can bring some more creativity back!! Being the typical artist :) and suffering from a bit of attention deficit, I just couldn't figure out what type of artistic projects I wanted to work on. I started with jewelry and then ended up at something much different. Today my shop is Gift Shoppe 2 and no matter what creative fancy I have for the day, week, month, or even hour... Anything can go in a gift shoppe or at least almost anything. I added 2 since this is my second name change in the last 6 months ;)

Most of your shop names are a lot more creative than mine! I brainstormed a list with words that combined some aspect of what I'm aiming for in a brand, all things along the lines of "fancy" or "elegant." Then I realized that to sell under anything under my own name, I should get a DBA license for $50... which, having had no sales yet, I didn't want to do. So I tossed the list and figured I'd just sell under my own name. But "Bollenbach" isn't very easy to remember or pronounce, so when I went to make my Etsy shop, I picked "Elegance by Katherine" very quickly as something simple and unique that reflected my style. I would have gone with Fancy Pants Jewelry but people might expect pants-themed jewelry and while my personality is silly, my jewelry isn't. Or it's not supposed to be anyway.

Hi Teammates!
The name of my brand, Chaton Noir, means black cat in french, and it´s in honor of my first, lovely and furry black kitten, Mafalda. Also, our Logo is a minimalist cat silhouete.
So the name fits perfect :D

My shop is called Artemis Clothing Co. I make women's clothing that is easy going and for independent, confident women! Artemis is the greek goddess of the hunt and the protector of women, so that is why I chose her as the icon for my shop!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Great question! My store is By Way of Salem. I create Halloween and all season art; sculptures, paintings, stitchings, art dolls, some jewelry, etc. Anything I love.
My logo depicts 2 witches, pulling a cart with a horse. This design just spoke to me! I visualize 2 old ladies trekking across country picking up odds and ends along the way, and selling or trading their wares.
I have horses and I love Halloween and I just fell in love with this design.

My shop is called Meri Makes because I love to celebrate and party. Another word for celebrate is to Make Meri (unfortunately that was already taken). I sell handmade confetti, gifts and soon I will be selling party supplies.

When i was younger i spent the holidays at my grand parents house, near the see ... I have a lot of good memories !
The name of this house was Ysembe. It means : We feel good.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
When I first opened my Etsy shop, I was inexperienced with names, so I started out just using my own name 'DarylAnnArt' or some such. However it didn't really say what I create: digital, instant download art.
So then I changed it (thank God for that option!) to feature: 1) my unusual name for a woman, 2) the fact that I like to describe my wares as 'art' and 3) the other fact that everything here is digital download, either PDF (coloring books) or JPEG (everything else).

Classy and Cluttered came about when I was really struggling with what I even wanted to make. I didn't want to pigeon hole myself to one product even though my shop has become mostly sewn items. And I'm totally ok with that. Anywho, I love classy clean lines but having had two boys they have helped welcome the "clutter" into my life. And then came Classy & Cluttered. ♥
