What's the story behind your shop name?

Hi teammates,

You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?

I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.

Bonobo is the name of the most smartest ape in the world. And closest to human. Their nature is very peaceful. They don't ever kill one another, İt is a "Make love not war community". I think there are a lot of things that people should learn from them:)
While ı was thinking about my shop name first ı thought about a common name like ' bluebeadbyirmsungr' then for marketing reasons ı wanted to add the word 'glass' and 'Bonobo' sounded very good to me.
So recently it is "BonoboGlassBead" ı am still very new on etsy. And honestly because of my full time job ı don't have enough time for promoting and updates. But ı really enjoy and want to wide my shop step by step. I will be very thankful if you visit my shop and give me some advice about how to get better and selling shop.

When I opened my Etsy shop, I've called him "Flavia Borse", because Flavia is my name and I started create" Bag".
Afterwards, I created crochet bracelets, tatting earrings.. so, now is , "FlaviaC.Accessories" !!

For me it is because I love to be able to speak French someday so I went with a French name. L'escargot means the snail because I'm quite slow in most life aspects and Hanoi is where I am from.

My shop is named after my initials and the day I was born. I didn't want to include the number initially, but after searching online, I realized the name VH DESIGNS was already taken.
I actually searched a lot for a name. I sell crochet and cross stitch item and the last thing I wanted was a name with the words "crochet" or "yarn". I really try to come out of the box by creating unique pieces. I can do anything crochet, but the last thing I want to sell is hats and scarves, unless they are my unique creations. I opened my store in 2012, but never really tried with it. I reopened in 2015, and I am giving a lot of focus and learning everyday. I haven't made any sales yet, but I've had over 600 likes between March and April. So I keep my fingers crossed and hope for my first sales very soon!

My shop and business name, Belle Rose Designs, comes from my daughter's name, Annabelle Rose. She was the reason I got started. I wanted to create hair accessories for her. Now I create all kinds of different flowers.

We came up with CUTFX shop name with my husband.We are selling vinyl decals and using vinyl cutter machine,here comes the word CUT and FX is for graphics :)

Great thread, Tess! I love reading about how people came across their shop names. They show creativity in and of themselves - unlike mine!

I wanted a name for my business that would tell people what I did. I would like to go much further and perhaps have my own website one day - and I knew I couldn't use a name for a business which is too similar to one already used in that area - so I am thinking way ahead!

My full shop name is AlanCordiner Polymer Clay Creations. My name is pretty unusual - so I doubt there will ever be conflicts there and, although I just make polymer clay jewellery at present, I would live to make polymer clay journal covers and boxes and trinket dishes etc. - so I felt that 'Creations' limited me less as my work evolves.

I have an idea for another Etsy shop with a much more interesting name - so I can separate my more funky stuff from the more traditional. I'm not sure whether that would be a good idea or whether wide variety in one shop is better. That's tackled in another thread somewhere, I guess - and for another day. I need to learn to walk before I run! :-)

My original shop name was ThompsonGirl (2008), after the Tragically Hip song. I just liked the quirkiness of it and thought it would work well if I wanted to showcase several creative endeavors since it didn't pin me down into just one category. As time went on, I found my success in jewelry and the other things I was doing, like knitting, became avocations. At that point it was brought to my attention that it would be wise to tie my business name to my real name so my shop became DianaFergusonJewelry. I still sort of miss ThompsonGirl though!

Hi, the name of my shop is RustndustDesigns. I have designed a number of rustic items over the years and have dealt with my share of the rusty and dusty stuff. I believe the name definitely fits the products. I'm sure a number of you out there can relate! I am happy and exited to be a member of the team!

I was a social worker for 12 years. I worked with prevention of child abuse. I noticed that families did little reading anymore with their children. When I quit my job to help take care of my 90 year old parents I decided to start Story book earrings for extra money. I wanted to do something to help others.I make earrings that have story's or facts that go along with the earrings I make for children. My goal was to get a parent or caregiver to spend 10 minutes reading a story I worte to their child and then the child would have a lovely set of nickel free earrings to wear. I wanted this to be a bonding time activity. I also donate a percentage to the local women's shelter. So its a win win!

What is Whisper of the Pipit?

Pipit is basically a small songbird of open country, typically having brown streaky plumage. The bird doesn't have fancy feathers but it is the Pipit's song that distinguishes that bird above all else. It is unmistakeable. It is one of the commonest songbirds in upland areas - this high piping call is truly beautiful and evocative sound. The full song of that bird is only heard during the song flight, when the bird starts rising into the air.

I am very lucky to have a family of Pipits living on a tree nearby our house. Their beautiful song wakes me up every morning. Sometimes I feel like that little Pipit, who's nothing much too look at, but can create something so lovely that makes people stop and think how life can be beautiful.

Whisper of the Pipit is all about creating that beautiful thing for other people.

I have created my logo with two little birds facing each other and one bird has its beak opened with a little heart coming out - it's the Whisper of the Pipit, that lovely sweet thing.

I named my photography shop Ebbs 'n' Flows Photography because it describes how I see life, how life encompasses me. There will be ups. There will be downs. There will be highs and lows, mountains and valleys. And yet, life never plateaus at one, and is, instead, a constant shuffle between the two, pausing at each, and every degree in between. This constant change is what I hope to capture with my photography.

First my shop name was SaniArt. But SaniArt didn't mean anything to me. It was just a name i had to remember quickly for my shop back in 2013.
I knew it back there in 2013, that someday i will remember something i'll like.
In jan 2016 i named my shop SilverStory4u - because i make silver jewelry.
Silver - i wanted to have silver in my name, because customers can predict from the name that there is something silver in my shop.
Story - behind every piece of my jewerly is their own story. How it's made, what inspired me to make that piece.
4u - well... etsy didn't alow me to open shop named SilverStory ... so i had to remember something that goes with the name. 4u means - for you customers :)
