Hi teammates,

You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?

I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.

Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

I wanted a cute, easy to remember username so I asked my friends for some ideas. I thought it would be fun to make some kind of pun on the fact that I make peg dolls so someone suggested "Scrambled pegs." I thought it was so cute and I love when I get compliments on it :)

Interesting and unique stories :)
Salnis is the last name of our craftsman, who produces the brand "Salnis". The lionhead logo comes from his horoscope and it's a reprezentation of the values that the brand holds - independence, strength, royalty, etc.

Mine comes from my blog of the same name. I try to photograph and blog about the world in an observant way, and pay attention to the little things :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Mine is pretty simple really, I sell eco-friendly gift wrapping, so the 'happy' bit relates to both the happy occasions (happy birthday, happy Christmas etc. etc.) as well as the good feeling you get from giving and being kind to the planet. Then of course 'wrap' from gift wrap. I think it has a nice ring to it :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

When I started our shop I learned to hunt vintage from a friend whose middle name is Forrest. She's a picker from way back, starting at age 7 and she's in her late-60s now. My first name is Tina. We combined these two names to create a shop name. It's unique and often starts a conversation about what I do when people ask me what it means.

Best friend forever. In fact more a sister than friend. Judy... Totsilala was her saying for anything or anyone she thought was fun, funky, beautiful, fabulous. "Well, isn't that Totsilala!" or "That is so Totsilala!" Totsilala is one of my favorite memories of Judy. I would like to believe she is grinning from ear to ear knowing our shop is named in her memory. This one's for you Judy:)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name came kind of naturally. My husband and I love animals and have a small collection of cats. When I wrote our names, I saw that it spelled CaT...Claudia and Terry. Our last name is Black. When I went to use CaTBlack, it was already used, so I added numbers. 917 is our wedding date, Sept 1, 2007. We are both involved with the production of our items.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

There is an essay called 'Welcome to Holland' that is an analogy about raising a special needs child. My brother was special needs and we have always used tulips in remembrance of him because of the story. I named my store in honor of him and used the Spanish word because of my Spanish heritage. I always put a gold tulip charm on each necklace.

My shop name is the Kennedy Grey Collection. It's after my 2 kiddos, Kennedy and Grey, pretty simple. Opening up my own shop was something I have dreamt about doing, so the original name was Kennedy Grace Designs (this before was son was born, so solely named after my daughter). Unfortunately (or fortunately) that name was already take so I changed it to the Kennedy Grace Collection. Took me awhile to bite the bullet and by that point my son was born hence the name :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

How fun to read all of your stories!

My original shop name was DragonflyHeart Eclectic, but I changed it to use my nickname. I came up with "dragonfly" after I was dumped by my longest-time best friend (33 years), who felt I didn't have enough time to devote to her. She said I was like a dragonfly, flitting from one thing to another. I told her to watch the flight of a dragonfly and she would see that they may flit here and there, but they always return to the special places they discover along the way.

I love beauty in so many genres....why should I limit myself? Guess I just have the heart of a dragonfly :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Years ago I had a small business from home called the Willowcreek Company. We had a creek/swamp in our back yard and there were a couple of Willow trees along the one end of the swamp.Hense the name. I sewed all kinds of things from fleece.
So when I was looking for a name for my Etsy shop I went back to this name and revised it a little because I still like it and it reminds me of our country home that i really miss sometimes........ you know the saying - you can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl!! haha

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Before I was a mom who later chose to stay at home, i worked in banking. Many customers would comment on my last name and ask "Is that your REAL name?" As if it were a stage name or something. As time went on, I put my middle initial on my biz cards as well because most people thought it was kind of funny. Having a last name of Nice opens up a good deal of conversations, B Nice opens up even more. Additionally, I am a Christian which makes "Be Nice" all the more important. When it came time for a shop name, I wanted to incorporate all of that into my shop name. I sell handmade crochet. The shop is small without a huge inventory, but I do believe that everything in my shop is well constructed. Thanks for reading my story and checking out my shop!
I'm also on FB, and Pinterest.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name isn't incredibly unique, but I'll still share. I chose it because I wanted to express how I feel when I create. Joyful! Which means I love creating and enjoy making every item in my shop, so there is a positive emotion behind everything I make and sell. And also because I want to spread that joy to others, and it excites me to think of someone receiving something I created and feeling happy. :)

My shop, Cazmira is named after my dear Polish Nana, although she spelt her name Casimira. And now, my daughter is named after her too. She made every thing from scratch, and was beautiful inside and out.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Feeding Reno is the name of my company that I recently just started. I bought the domain name "feedingreno.com" in May of 2014 and I told myself "I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to find a way to end hunger in Reno".

Many months later I built an online subscription service for all things Nutrition, Gardening, and Fitness. We take half of our revenue from that service and send it to local charities that are ending hunger!

We of course also sell our wooden signs & canvas bags in local shops in Reno & online on Etsy. Please feel free to check us out :)

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

What a great thread!
I began my company years ago making meditation furniture.(still do). Then I began making all kinds of furniture and housewares from reclaimed wood. Most of my items are made from locally harvested wood from the millions of dead pine trees killed by the mountain pine bark beetle. Many locals find it useful for only firewood, but I find the blue stain in the wood absolutely beautiful and love to work with it...a sacred resource.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name is The Whispering Raven because ravens are used to symbolize what has passed or the past and much of what I create has little pieces of the past represented in the vintage and antique pieces that I use to create my jewelry...like whispers giving a hint at what used to be years ago.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

Wow, I am finding some incredible shops from this thread! My shop name is the nicknames of both my grandma and my nana combined. My grandmothers name was Bibiana so she was called Bebe, and my nana was Katherine and she was called Kay. I got into vintage jewelry because of them, so it was very appropriate. ❤️💚💙

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?

My shop name is a play on my last name & its heritage of coming from Blacksmith. I believe Blacksmiths were masters of their craft & I wanted to show that I am (hopefully) a master of my craft of making Bunting. It popped into my head & ive never looked back or doubted it for a second :)
