Hi teammates,
You guys have some super creative shop names that I love, but I often find myself wondering what the story behind them is. What do you like about your shop name? How does it relate to your business? Is there a funny anecdote behind it? Is it a pun? Is it a tribute to someone special to you? Did you have a different name before switching to your current one? How do you think customers interpret your name?
I'll go first. I got the name Sassafras from a good friend of mine who always called me Sassafras when I said anything that was a little snarky. I also have a passion for botany, so a plant name just felt like a perfect fit for me.
Now it's your turn. Share your stories and thoughts in this thread!

The story behind my shop name is simply enough.
My shop is called Kosmobysoul. The name originates from the Greek word “κοσμώ” which in my language means “decorate, beautify”. So, in my shop you will have the chance to find creations that will decorate your house and come straight from my soul!!!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hi there! Trash Find Redesigned came to mind a few years ago when I began taking re-purposable items from my neighbors trash piles!!!
I would secretly "borrow" an item, sneak it home... and, with my daughter-in-law, redo/repurpose/recycle it. We would then secretly return the reinvented item at the front door of the original owner. My husband filmed all of our adventures and posted several of them to my YouTube.
To our surprise, we were contacted by an ABC Good Morning America producer. To make a long story short... One of my trash finds was featured (an awesome wooden bench), along with myself, on Good Afternoon America with Laura Spencer and Josh Elliot. Another Estate Sale find of mine was repurposed by Lara Spencer on a different ABC segment which included my daughter-in-law. Very fun and exciting for us!
So, back to the name thing - Trash Find Redesigned seemed like the perfect name for what I was doing a few years ago. I now have over 50,000 Facebook likes and am having a blast repurposing pallet wood for my 2 ETSY shops (TrashFindRedesigned and my new shop at SignsThatSayStuff).
That's it!

Interesting to read everyones story behind their shop names! I just opened my shop this week.My work is inspired by my little ones, whom we often refere to as 'the munchkins' and they are always extremely happy, so I came up with my happy munchkins store name. :)

I really like this thread :-)
My shop name was originally my maiden name - Pauline Coleman Jewellery. But it never quite fit. I didn't study design or silver smithing in University like others in my field so I wanted to differentiate somehow.
My husband actually came up with the name. He describes me as a bit of a fancy pants and it has a dual meaning. In Ireland where I am from it's just someone who likes nice things, in England where we live it refers to nice underwear!
When he suggested it I started laughing my head off, 5 minutes later once I gathered myself again I changed the shop name. It's catchy, memorable and me! Which is everything that I wanted.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hi guys!
My business started as an aniversary gift to my girlfriend, Dani.
I illustrated us both and made some fridge magnets out of it.
When she saw them, she immediately said that I should post them and make a business out of it, since it was so original.
That same day we opened a Facebook page, and she actually thought of the name: She always calls me PIN (which comes from PINCHU; which is a cute way of saying that I have pointy hair, which I used to have when I was little hahaha).
The phrase Que Pin Que Pan, is very known in my country. It's retro. It kinda means "whatever". Since it has the word PIN in it.. I don't know. It just came to her and I liked it :)
I think it's hard to pronnounce in English, though!
Thank you for reading!!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hello everyone. The name of my shop came from my best friend a few years ago. I was struggling to come up with a name for our maple sugaring project. She suggested we name it after the little creek in our yard where all the maple trees are located. For a few years now we have been calling our 'yard' Little Creek Maple Farm. In reality, we have very little grassy yard, its more of a forest. Now, I use the same name for my sewing business.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
ClayLickCreekPottery comes from the name of the creek that runs through our property. The interesting aspect is that when we bought the land, I hadn't started my journey as a potter. There are clay deposits in the creek which I have used for small projects. The clay runs in seams that are blue white in color and fire to a peachy orange color.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hi Tess,
Love the story behind your shop name. There was a great clothing store named Sassafras on State St. in Madison, WI - always thought it was a fun name. I'm pretty sure I've heard my mom-in-law call my daughter "Miss Sassafras" when she's being sassy, too : )
I made a name change and to Salvaged Studio a few years ago when I began focusing on creating jewelry from vintage tea tins and other old metal objects.
Now that I've left my metalsmithing behind to pursue my vintage map items (coasters, jewelry and accessories), I find the name still fits since I'm using old maps and atlases. This was also inspired by a collection of long forgotten maps and travel journals which I salvaged out of some old metal file boxes. I've added the tag line "share your world" because that's what my customers do when they buy my map items as gifts or for themselves.

My shop name is based on the Etsy requirement that vintage items must be at least 20 years old and I have things older than twenty years too so I added the plus for older items. I don't know how creative my shop name is but I feel it accurately reflects what I am trying to sell.
I have been enjoying these stories behind the shop names.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
These shop stories are fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing!
Someone asked my boyfriend where he got the card he'd given them and he said Cherry (ie me) made this card. He suggested it to me as just CherryMadeThis so that it would still work if I did more than cards. It was a great name and felt friendly :) I do now do more than cards, having branched out into cake toppers and one of a kind gifts using hand mixed and poured resin, so the name is still perfect; oh hey, where did you get that bag hook? Oh, Cherry made this!

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hello everyone! My name is Jon "Roach" Brosius (Roach being a nickname I received growing up, it has to do with the way my last name is pronounced). My girlfriend's name is Rachael Allison Dzikonski (R.A.D.). I talked her into the idea of starting an Etsy shop but wasn't sure what to call it. When I asked for her ideas, she immediately said RAD Roach. It was funny because she said, "I'm RAD and your Roach". It was so cute I couldn't deny it.
Thanks for letting me share our story. Happy sales everyone.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
My dog's name is Betty and I get asked a lot if we named her after Betty Boop (which we did not). Then I came up with Betty Woof, which is similar to Betty Boop and sticked with it.
It was much more difficult to find the dog's name in the first place (this took us many days!) :-))

The name of my shop use to be handwritten in love. For a while I liked the name, but then I wanted something simple but that stood out lovely.
soo as I thought about it some more I liked the concept of a love offering. Usually you wood hear love offering at church, love offerings were gifts from people. Just a sweet way of showing someone appreciation & love.
So why not offer love in the way I'm gifted? :)

Neat thread! Great stories! I am a self taught book-binder and that's what I called my handmade book business 10 years ago, a little play on words there. When I opened my Etsy shop 4 years ago, I racked my brain trying to come up with a new and catchy name for my sewing thing, I thought, duh, why not just use the same name because I'm always "bound to be creative". Thanks for letting me share my shop name story!

I love this thread! SweetPMonograms is based off the nickname we had for our daughter as a child. The nickname Sweetpea has stayed with her until this day! So, when she asked me about doing Etsy, it seemed appropriate that we would call it SweetPMonograms.

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
Hi Team, here's my story:
One day I noticed my facial skin had red blotches
after bathing. When I read the ingredients in the commercial soap
there were words I couldn't pronounce.
After some research I realized I had to make a change for a more
nourishing, hydrating soap.
Hence, Sugar Taffy Soap was born.
Where does the name Sugar Taffy Soap come from?
I live by the Jersey shore where saltwater taffys are manufactured.
I noticed when looking at glycerin soap, the
pastel colors reminded me of saltwater taffys that I enjoyed
as a child and throughout my younger years. Although
it wasn't so much the taffy but the SUGAR that I loved, I decided
to combine the love of soapmaking and the love for sugar into a
flourishing business!
That's how I came up with the name

Re: What's the story behind your shop name?
My name story is simple. After I retired from my professional career as a psychologist and discovered my passion for sea glass and creating jewelry, I felt very lucky to embark on a new endeavor. Also, if you find sea glass on a beach, you do feel very lucky! And also, some people believe sea glass is like a lucky charm, bringing good luck! So I named my business Lucky Sea Glass Jewelry, and it has been lucky for me.

My shop was originally called "Faire," after the French verb meaning "to do, to make," but also because it connoted an old world marketplace. After I stumbled upon a Brooklyn jewelry designer using that name, I added "Henny," which is a Lowland Scots way of referring to a girl or woman. I wasn't sure about it at first, but people have responded positively. I now think it suits my brand.

When I first began making jewelry I was pregnant with my second child.
With my first baby I was very young and uneducated about childbirth. I was so scared that my Dr. suggested an elective cesarean. It was the most terrible thing I had ever went through.
With my second I was planning a home birth after a c-section. I was very nervous, but became an advocate to women's rights in childbirth and women's education.
My birth was successful and my business began to bloom. I started donating back a portion of every single Etsy sale I made. In just 2 short years I was able to donate over $8,000 to women's and children's charities. My money was used locally to support women's childbirth education and labor support and as far as globally purchasing life wraps to save mothers in rural areas from obstetric hemorrhage, plus many other things in between.
I had my babies at home, I work from home, and I support Midwifery, Doulas, Mothers, Babies, and the Rights to Humane Birth Options... through crafts. :)
(P.S.- Due with our fourth little babe this December!)
