What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

I literally listen to EVERYTHING, but recently I noticed that when I'm creating Art, I listen a lot of David Bowie songs. Aladdin Sane is like honey in my ears <3

Sometimes I just prefer to work in silence if I'm really focusing. If not, I like putting on my favorite albums that I have memorized from start to finish which makes it almost background music but very familiar and welcoming. Some of my favorites are Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' "From Below", The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons' "Wilder Mind", and Bastille's "Bad Blood"

Musically, I'll listen to anything, but for long days in the studio I need podcasts to keep me entertained. Snap Judgment is my all-time favorite, followed by Selected Shorts. The Craftsanity podcast is a new discovery, I like that one a lot, too.

Christmas music! It's Christmas year-round at my house because celebrating Christmas is what my shop is all about. I either have Christmas music on or a Christmas movie or Christmas episodes of favorite television shows.

I like upbeat and easy listening music to listen to while I work- it keeps me energized and working at a good pace. The velvet and blend channels on Sirius are currently my two favorites.

I don't listen to music but I do put on the show Fixer Upper while I'm working. Listening to Joanna and Chip and all of their creative ideas tends to help me tune in to my creative side. They pump me up, pretty much.

I tend to surf the internet while I am knitting. I knit some stitches, scroll down a page, and knit a few more. It helps that I can knit while I read. I have been doing it for years, and know a technique to automatically control for yarn tension (I highly recommend it to any knitters. I would teach you all if I could), so that makes it much easier. While I don't tend to listen to music while I knit, I am an avid music lover, and love to comb the new releases on Spotify for fun new songs. I tend to go for "Chill Wave" lately, and I have always gone for stuff that is pretty relaxing. Music is very much a part of my life.

It depends on how quick I shall sew :) If I'm really in a hurry with orders then I listen to dance and house and modern music :) If I have enough time to be prepared, something lighter like chill music makes it :)

I listen to all kinds depending on my mood, sometimes classical, but mostly rock, and especially gothic is my favourite that inspires me to create stuff.

I love listening to move sound tracks. Inception and (gasp!) Frozen are my current faves. They're epic and interesting without being distracting!
