What music do you listen to while you make?

Hi there!

When I’m creating, I need to listen to something that will motivate me to keep going. Whether I’m knitting, cross-stitching or baking, I’m always playing records to get myself in the right frame of mind.

Do you listen to music while you make? If so, what kind do you choose? Why do you listen to the songs or artists that you do? Do they amp you up and get you excited to take on the day? Do they drive you to create more? Do you prefer music that calms you when things are stressful? Does it help keep you focused? Do you listen to music that will entertain you when work feels monotonous? Do you like something with a good beat to dance to when you need a little break?

Mostly I listen to audio books. I love music but have so little time to read and enjoy getting by book crave satisfied.

I listen to all kinds of music when I'm making my jewelry. It really depends on the piece I'm working on. If I'm making a bright, colorful necklace, often I'll play some Salsa or some kind of Latin music. If I'm making a bold piece, sometimes I'll listen to hip hop or rap or operatic music (love all the crescendos!). Then, if I'm doing something monotonous or a part of the production process that can be frustrating, I'll listen to meditation music and it really allows me to focus and complete my tasks in a state of calm. Music infuses so much of my creative process. I can't imagine working without it!

EDM (Electronic Dance Music), all kinds but especially Melodic Trance. This kind of music inspires me and helps me get lost in creating! <3

I have BBC Radio 2 on most of the day which tend to be middle of the road music ( which I know the words to and can sing along! ) and interviews and chat in between ... if I really have to concentrate I need silence though xx

It depends of what I'm making jewelry tiaras, flowers or headbands. Tiaras require more time and focus so it's some music which doesn't distract.

Sometimes I listen to an audio book, sometimes its Radio 4, quite often its Planet Rock...or something indie/folksy on the cd player.
Recently though, I have developed a taste for Indian music.

I love listening to our national radio program. It gives a lot of up to date news, and offers plenty of interesting talks about everything, including culture, music, history, psychology, world events, gardening, politics, literature and much much more. And there is lots of music too - from jazz to pop, rock and classics. It is a great source of information and it is a pleasure to listen to it while working.

It depends what I am doing. But mostly I'm watching TV shows like Homeland, Grey's Anatomy or right now Harry Potter. When I studied I used to watch documentaries. Yea, I can knit and crochet and watch all that stuff on my computer.

It all depends on my mood! and where I am working. If I am in my work room its either a rock cd or local radio. If I am at the dining room table, making a huge mess of my whole house, I am watching programs I have PVR'd. Law and Orders, Grey's Anatomy, Blacklist.... Anything I missed.

First of all, I love this thread. What a great topic. I think I usually watch things on Netflix while creating. Music is hard for me. I am going to check out some of the bands some of you have mentioned though. Maybe I will find something that strikes me the right way for creativity.

When doing computer work that requires concentration, I play flute concertos. If I want a pick-me-up or when I'm cleaning my yarn studio, I put on Pink. She gets me jammin'. LOL! I crochet while watching TV.

Ohhhhhhh I love this discussion! I LOVE MUSIC, i literally listen to music almost all the time, and when I draw and create, music is my only partner, sometimes my inspiration, and it even defines my rythm...To me, creating while listening to a song that touches me and moves me is like a complete state of freedom...Here are some examples...out of 100000000000!
